| You'll never produce a formula hat keeps everyone happy, Mishmash!
There's a case to say you have to look at the records... I never saw Bill Kindon play, but for donkeys he was the club's record try scorer. I didn't see Legard, either, but he surely must be the best fullback we've had... look at his international record, and his price tag! Pawsey, Egan, Mick Martyn, Murphy, Drummond... again, on their stats records, they have to be in, even though many on the board won't have seen any of them, and few if any on the board will have seen all of them.
The different opinions is all part of the fun

| Quote ="kirkhall"The only changes I would make to my selection would be, Trevor Allen for Gordon Lewis and, Charlie Pawsey for Geoff Clarkson. It is difficult to comment on Players you've not seen however, my father watched Leigh from 1923 until 2002! He said John Woods was the best player Leigh ever had and that Trevor Allen was sensational! don't recall him revering anyone else. I've never seen a Stand Off,either Aussie or GB NZ etc.. that I would have prefered to John Woods and, I've never seen a Scrum half to compare to Murph either! I can't think any team could have had a better halfback pairing to those two, I'd loved to have seen them together at their best!
'"
Did my 'namesake' never get a mention from your old fella?? From what I have heard he was a bit of a legend in the old Mather Lane days!! (tales of wrestling exhibitions as pre-match entertainment!!)
Challenge Cup winning captain, and Lions Tourist.....the AJM of his day!!

| Whilst the final line up is not,IMO, the best team we've had,I thought the ctiteria was, it didn't matter if you had not seen them play? its still a very good line up though. Did no one else ever see Bev Risman play for Leigh? I can't belive i'm the only one mentioned him! Bev was the former and the then current Egland flyhalf before joining us and was a really stylish player and excellent goal kicker. I think he played almost five years at Leigh before joining Leeds to become their captain and, also Great Britain captain!

| Just for the record. Tommy Sale who has been watching Leigh since 1928 and probably knows more about the club than anyone alive compiled his own Leigh dream team five years ago for rucby league world. It was as follows:
Ledgard
Drummond
Lewis
Allan
Walsh
Woods
Murphy
Chisnall
Ashcroft
Owen
Pawsey
M Martyn
Foster
Subs
Eckersley
T Martyn Snr
Kitchen
Smethurst
He also gave an honourable mention to: Darwell, Kindon, Robinson,Donlan and Turley amongst a few others. Interestingly the name Tim Street does not appear which underlines the fact that while he remains a massive cult hero at Leigh his playing skills don't quite merit a place in the dream team. Particularly as he is up aginst props with international honours!

| Totally agree with TS, great servant in the lower leagues for us but a dream team played the best of their time, TS never shone against the best like Wilkinson, Pyke, Chisnall, Owen, etc
What we must remember is that many posters have never seen Leigh mix it with the best.

| This is the problem really because as people say they can only go off what they've seen. Tim Street wouldn't have made it into my dream team either but everyone has their own opinions and that's the point of starting the poll in the first place.
I've got Alex Murphy's Leigh dream team to post tomorrow - I wonder whether he'll put himself in it!

| I take all your points, but considering that the current dream team, as it stands, only contains Bristow, Rowley, Street and Turley from what I can see, who have played for Leigh in the last fifteen years or so and that the rest of the team is made up of players that have certainly mixed it with the best, whoever has voted seem to have selected players from over a large period of years. A lot of people who have selected players such as Street, have also selected players from the championship and challenge cup winning teams. I am 50 years old and have compiled my team with a selection of fans who are 60 plus years old. They all rate Street as one of the best props they have seen at Leigh. It is just opinions isn't it? However, I do believe that the way you are going about selecting the team is the best way of doing things. Of course, someone 70 plus may come up with a different team to a twenty year old, but I think overall you will come up with a pretty good team, that represents all the eras. We could argue forever about who should and should not be included, but as far as I can see the current team looks a fair one to me and despite not agreeing with it 100%, I can see why they are all in there. When you take opinions from a wide cross section of people, you'll find you come up with a pretty good side IMO.
