| I'll give it a few games before I make my mind up about that one but Durbin plays the game a lot faster than jock and backs up better. On the other hand I wouldn't like to see Jock infront of me if I had the ball. Some of the collision noises when he made tackles yesterday were sickening.

OK maybe Ill get shot but what about Durbin 6, Watto 7 and Jock 9 and Riddy on the bench.

| I'd like to see Durbin play 7 to be honest.
From what I've been told (as I've only been to Wigan game), Watson is far too slow at getting the ball out and we aren't attacking down the flanks enough.

| forget the above question as numbers mean nothing, it should read whats te difference between a stand off and a scrum half in the modern game, before anyone answers, watch a TV game of any english club.

Dead simple, if you look at our squad numbers. Watson is 7, whether he plays 'scrum half' or prop. As for number 6 - well, we haven't got one! (according to the squad numbers, that is)

No, the position on the field, of these two players, seems to depend on who can pass best to the right, or left!

| Scrum half is usually smaller more diminutive and in alot of cases a better ball handler than the stand off and works the dummy half when the hooker is tied up.
I'm sure Fred will disagree lol
Durbin has the look of a scrum half thats all I was thinking and I'm sure he'd affect the play more positively than Watson while still having McConnell on the pitch also.

The debate that is about to start is rapidly catching up with the Lobby and Flute Song ones.

| no not at all its just that different perspective on games is welcome, certain roles in RL have changed and whilst not a lover of squad numbers it just goes to show that numbers on backs mean nothing, granted the 'scrum half' is usually smaller but look at some of the aussies coming through there are a couple of scrum halfs who are six footers +(sorry dont do metric) so even the old fashioned view (or is it?) of your scrum half being a 5'7" terrier will soon have to shift, so what now should they be called 1st and or 2nd recievers? or 1st and/or 2nd distributors, it would be nice to hear a coaches view wheres mr c when you want him? as well as the laymans
It was easier to explain to the kids back in the 80's as players did what their numbers said, not that I ever taught our Dave anything he learned off his grandads, that why he knows so much (thought Id get it in before someone else)

| Is the loose forwards roll more defensive and supportive than inventive then in the modern game? I give you Kevin Sinfield. Not a big lad. His defence is superb and support play is too, but doesn't really make a lot of breaks.

| In todays game fred, no, not a lot of difference, but why don't we try to revert to the roles of yester-year?! Maybe sometimes you do have to go backwards to go forwards? it would suit us down to the ground i feel, with durbin taking the line on with his quick feet, in a traditional scrum half fashion, and watson should sit back and boss the game with his long kicking game, and mouth on attack as a fullback does on defence, those are his strengths! he's seen plenty of different scenarios pan out on a rugby field, and i feel the one thing watson does have is knowledge of the game, and should use his head, instead of trying to prove that he can still beat the line with his feet, because he doesn't posess that kind of pace. I feel that Durbin does get the ball out with more urgency and would be better at first man, and that watson would be better suited to orchestrating play on the 4th/5th as a link man on the back of the quick distribution of durbin.

| Your right Keith Dennis wasn't a wrestler, more of a boxer actually he had a sweet left cross
Now if I ever won the lottery and was daft enough to try and fill the black hole that i Leigh Centurions then Kevin Sinfield would be first on my list, I always feel Leeds don't know how to use him not only is he a good defensive man he is a sweet ball handler andfor me could be the modern Harry Pinner.
Derek Pyke, now when he first came on the scene all my old mates who used to stand behind the sticks hated him, me I always thought he had all the attributes to be a Leigh legend and like all good props (then they were allowed to not like today SL attitude of your no good if your over 21) matured as he got older and was even better when he went to Widnes.
Has anybody else noticed too that the art of 'feeding the scrum' that the old time scrum halves were masters of is now not called for and litterally anyone feeds it these days, Anthony Stewart fed about 4 last week and Riddy packed down at loose for a quick break.
But yes the 'half back' is now the 'hooker' who passes to the 1st reciever (scrum half) who then decides either a 'grunt' (prop) or strike forward (second row) or to 2nd reciever or 'link man' (stand off) who brings the backs into play, unless of course the 'half back'... oh im going to bed this is 'dooin me yed in'

| Has anyone noticed that "feeding the scrum" and "feeding" are (or were) an art and an offence. The shout off "feedin" from the terrace was as common as "get um on side".
