| As much as I have been a fan of Riddy, the signs were there for all to see last season that the big guy with the sickle, black hood and cape was standing very close to Martin.
As has been said he has never been blessed with pace but I also feel that it now is not just at ground level, he was getting caught or giving bad balls on a lot of occasions last season, the Riddy of 3 of 4 years ago would be hitting the target 99/100 and creating tries, last year it just wasn't happening as often as we needed him to convert those opportunities.
I do not see his resigning as the dealings of a club who are truley ambitious in their intentions to return to SL, unless he is a one of the cut price part time player's that will not impact much on the wage bill leaving cash over to increase the playing pool with ambitious signings.

Harry,my apologies if this has already been mentioned, but Riddy was trying to play with injections to his foot in the latter end of last season, which no doubt impacted on his performance.Woods was also sidelined with injury, and we didn't have any sufficient cover. A fit riddy will no doubt play a very important part for us this coming season.

| I am firmly on the positive side with the retention of Riddy and Greg. There is a knod certainly to the need for both to be fit and raring to go and it sounds that both realize that. Also there will be a need to not have Riddy playing 80 mins a game, week in week out for the first half of the season as it will impact his ability to be effective and fit at the business end. He also needs a quality partner who can be an equal threat and therefore an equal target for our opposition.
Happy that both are staying

| I would imagine we will go with 4 half backs In the squad and rotate them to cover 1985 cup and games v lower teams we can play the 2 part time ones possibly and the two main ones being full time will play the bigger matches

Its all gone quiet on the Sammut front as I thought it was a done deal, either signed or loan.
I wouldn't rule out Brierley either but i suppose we will know more after Sunday ?

| Sammut just posted on twitter that he's 'back on his bike' and people are wishing him good luck. No official announcement from us yet though.
Wish him luck, didn't let anyone down and produced some decent rugby over the handful of games he played for us.

If you had used him in a less structured way (which I know you can’t) he would have paid dividends. His gameplay is one of who dictates, not one of who is dictated too.

I really hope we have secured Sammut, the thought of Josh Woods for another season does not fill me with much expectation of our progress next year.

Josh is very much learning his trade. Sammut can be a game changer.

That’s a little low Harry. Give the lad a chance. Sammut will show him the ropes.

In my opinion I am mot sure yet that this squad is much better than last year - having lost our 3 best forwards Douglas, T Adamson & Cator. The halves are the same as last year and I didn't think the backs who played at the end of last season Higson, Sau, Forsyth and Thornley created very much - maybe they didn't have time to gel. I think some quality dual reg players helped us do well in the first half of the season - I wonder if we have DR again this season?
Maybe Ince & Mullen will add a bit of pace and Addy and Wildie a bit of know-how in the forwards. Could do with a bit more quality to make this a top 2 squad.

Thanks for the update 'jp'. I tend to agree with you that the squad needs a bit more 'wow factor'. Hopefully, a couple more signings may move towards that.

I suppose we are back to the question of DR? Then strengthen come the business end. Would seem a logical answer rather than using your own.
