There may not be any money from the tourist board and the Stadium Company might want £1m a day. Ticket sales might not cover the clubs transport and hotel costs, promoting the event, policing, stewarding, the VATman....we don't know. I could guess at a load of figures in an attempt to show it lost money.

AYE (flat cap voice) the RFL are forcing this expansion issue, without there being too much geniune interest. Actually YOU could place any town in the UK, into our premier/super league and they might do ok, how about Ipswich Jets ?
Though it wouldn't take a club that long to build a fan base similiar to salford/wakey/harlequins/wrexham etc, but is that a success ? I think their 'dream' is to see 8/9k averages for these NEW clubs - it's NEVER gonna HAPPEN.
Surely it's better to have a M62 team in SL, AVERAGING 4/5K, after all, they will produce/attract local players, rather than relying on mercenaries/overseas players.
Come SUPER LEAGUE season, everyone seems to forget how bad our national team is, WAY behind in 3rd place, and as for France, what good has Catalan Dragons done for their national team.
RUGBY LEAGUE is a struggling sport, not as bad as it was in the late 70's/early 80's, but MILLENIUM MAGIC does not kid anyone, except RFL/SUPER LEAGUE FANS.

It's all right saying all this negative stuff but the fact is that there were 7 entertaining rugby league games on the telly over two days. What sport other than tennis and footy does this? I personally think it's a great advert for our sport. Just needs the organising sorting.

If you and others want to attend , then by all means do so , if you want to watch on TV , fine , not a problem , but essentially it isn't anything to do with Leigh Centurions RL club , if you want a sensible discussion about it , try the VT or one of the many SL clubs boards that played at it

Isn't it funny when someone disagrees with a SL post the usual subjects come on and start hurling the 'Curmudgeons, or flat cappers etc..' as if it was an insult or do they think that people are not allowed their own opinions, its called realism, like starbug says it's really nothing to do with Leigh Centurions, myself I just hope some of these millions of profit trickles it's way down to Leigh Miners Rangers or Leigh East or Atherton Dragons etc.. as it's those clubs that do all the hard work and prove to the 'shiny boys' that without them they would have to play 13 over the hill antipodeons. But I wont hold my breath waiting for it to happen.

I don't agree with most things SL Fred but I definitely don't agree with people suggesting that I go onto another board to talk about a "rugby league" issue. Are we now to say that anything not appertaining to Leigh Centurions is not allowed on this board? This discusion was mainly between Leythers so has a place on the "leythers forum". Also the whole froum is named "RL fans " is it not? So we should be able to discuss any RL subject on any forum as long as it is not rude, defamatory or down right out of order.

Not suggesting discussions shouldnt take place Tony, only the relevancy of those discussions to Leigh Centurions, thats what people who call others can't see, did I watch the M weekend? - some of it yes but as I was filming on both weekend days I didn't get to see it all- i have it on my SKY box, will I watch it? possibly at a future date but as I am not particularly bothered about watching game I know the result of, then I don't know.
Would I go to a M weekend? No definately not and for other PERSONAL reasons as to why I don't go to Wembley or Old Trafford any more, nothing to do with being parochial but personal.

Hold on there are threads about Wakey. Leigh Miners, Leigh East, allsorts. None of which have any relevance to Leigh Centurions but I have never seen any protests about these threads.

Nine out of the last twenty topics have nothing to do with Centurions, the majority don't attract protest and derision because they don't mention the hated Super League.

No protests from me only questioning the relevance to Leigh Centurions re the Millenium weekend, one could argue that as Miners East and Wakey as they appear to be the favs for us playing them next year are relevant, if im thinking correctly Starbug was only sugesting an alternative place to argue the relevance of the millenium weekend which to be fair Its one place I never look at - but then again I don't tend to go on many other boards, what with me being parochial and the like
