Kieron purtill or someone who had enough experience , to coach competently in our league. We dont need backward steps after this season. Realistically we will sign who we can afford. Aslong as they have ambition and passion to drive our team forward then that'll do for me.

Done a great job at Rochdale.

Due to Millwards techniques and ethic, would not surprise me if it is Rowley and Robbie Paul. They would have both learnt alot.

Due to financial restraints, that would be the sensible choice.

Fred Parky has already said that Paul doesn't want it and Robbie is not interested in coaching, though.

Either way Al, cannot see it being a big money coach.

If Paul does't want it, I will be surprised if he will be with us next year.

Harrisons appointment to Halifax may have some beaing on that !

According to Stanky Millward is his mentor as a coach and seems to the two may well stay in touch... Wonder if Basil has put a good word in? Watched Rochdale playoff game today and as a unit they were simply outstanding!

cant understand that one,i think hes done a fine job this season.
the fact they had to play so hard in the early part of the season to knock the -9 points has probably took its toll on them today.

Had a pretty solid game from what I recall made, good yards and defended well (as they all did) standouts were ex Widnes academy points machine Paul Crook who got 25 points inc 3 tries, a 40m drop goal and 2 penalties from the half way line added to 2 40/20s whilst generally kicking Oldham to death anyway! Adam Bowman who looked a weak centre for us has suddenly turned into an excellent prop. Back rower Ashall was immense too.

Richie Marshall, Alan Hunte both have decent pedigrees and must be ready for their own team.

For me Purtill seems the ideal fit - he's been an assistant in SL for a few years now, and worked under some quality head coaches. He's 'one of ours' - which is always a plus for the Leigh faithful, but unlike Rowley, having been detached from the set-up at Leigh for several years, he's gonna be able to come in and put his own stamp on things, without the worries of putting mate's noses out of joint.

That said - I'm still holding out the hope that Ian has his recommended replacement already lined up....... 'cos his last one made a decent fist of it!! And - Basil having already done the 'box-ticking' spade-work - there is not the added pressure of trying to win a GF...which means the club can concentrate on the other elements - ie improving the investment in local youth, and growing the business through increased attendances/merchandising/etc.....not easy in this division, I grant - but essential if this club is ever to compete 'at the top-table' again!!

Lets just hope we get some favourable news about investment sooner rather than later - 'cos whoever gets the job doesn't want to be encumbered with that sort of uncertainty from day one!!

Difficult, speculating about our new coach until we know where we are financially.

Noble will be no use to us if we can't afford to pay him.

Wouldn't surprise me if we promote from within (Neil Jukes) as a stop gap until we know what direction the club is going to be heading in.

Apparently Noble's wage demands were too high for Cas & Wakey (during negotitation stage).

There you go - if a couple of SDL clubs can't afford him, how would a club in the Ch., who are currently in a bit of a financial 'pickle' have any hope of securing his services??

Methinks 'Nobby' will be warming his a**e 'on the bench' for some time to come yet!! For me, his biggest mistake was taking the GB job....as he had the opportunity to go to Aus when he left Bratfurt - which could have taken him to the next level coaching wise.
Some say he did alright as coach of the national side, but - in the final analysis - he progressed GB no farther than any other boss in the last 40 years!!
Again - he had the chance to go to aus and further his credentials, but chose instead to take the 'poison chalice' of a floudering W*gan.
He steadied the ship at the then JJB, but failed to make that push (5 or 6 semi-final failures tells it's own story!)....his replacement, with only one addition to the same squad of players gets them the SDL crown at the first attempt!!....then follows that up with a Challenge Cup, and potentially another GF appearance!!
Meanwhile a 'well-rested' Mr. Noble took a 'step-down' to a consultancy role at the 'enigma' that is Halifax - last season's Ch. GF winners, who couldn't buy a win in early season as they had a defence like a sieve!! Step up Nobby to 'steady the ship' - and the chance to resurrect his profile by steering them to another piece of silverware!! All appeared to be coming together, as results improved, and 'fax played their way to the Trains Cup final in Blackpool (immediate opportunity to 'tick the box' again for the next round of SDL licences - having missed out this time).......
Alas, Nobby's 'Midas Touch' eludes him yet again.....and he goes back to his part-time punditry with the Beeb!!

I'm not arguing with Brian Noble's record as a coach (the success with the Bulls speaks for itself!)....but maybe his methods have not 'progressed' at the same rate as the sport - and he may find himself increasingly out of touch ....in the same way that AJM stuck to his way of doing things - while the sport moved on around him!!
