Agreed...we wanted to spend the max on the cap 2 years ago, and we (Derek ?) decided to scrap the academy's. Apparantly it was costing 90K a season to fund, and quite a few 'championship' clubs were unable to fulfil their fixtures due to a lack of players available. So we have quite a few 'old players' (mainly in the forwards) and no youngsters coming through. You live & learn I guess, and if we stay up via the 'middle 8's' then we can plan accordingly for 2018.

Probably one or two people hoping to revisit this thread on Saturday night. Which side they are from remains to be seen

Really? You'd be happy with about 5k attendance? That's ambition for you.

Leigh fans should really be up for this match and trying to drum up loads of support on the terraces (as should Wakey but they're not known for massive away support.

This is a pivotal game for both side. If Leigh win, Wakey might face slipping into the mid 8s considering they have 2 other potential banana skins to avoid after playing yourselves. Loose all 3 (doubtful but you never know) and Wakey will find themselves fighting to keep in the top 8. If Leigh lose you might be in the bottom 2 and only get 3 home games in the mid 8s.

This may be an unglamourous fixture to the neutral, but games like this define your season.

Out of interest, what is your 'average' home attendance this year Gallanteer ?

This will be one of our lowest for 2017 by the way.

We had lack of anything in 2015, our youth won the SL 2008 I think but then lapsed a little but starting to pick up again now with a decent youth structure at the club.

Discounting the cup game, just under 7.5k thanks. Pretty much what it was last season when we were exceptionally bad. Plus this season away support is quite non existant (as I'm sure you'll remember down here).

Not that it matters. You're allegedly an SL team, struggling to survive and in a key clash of the season and you'd by happy with 5k? I know we didn't set the world on fire but that gate represents a 33% drop in attendance compared to us last year when we were just woeful.

As for squad size, 29 IS small. For any sort if hope, you need to be aiming for 35. We should know. Our small but expensive side got us relegated last season.

Ah, I had you down for a Wakey fan from your post .......

KR someone says, well in that case your support is really quite good, to have retained that following & the fantastic Season Ticket sales on the back of relegation is a remarkable achievement & a credit to the Club.

Saturdays gate will be heavily down for 2 important reasons, 1 the losing streak & 2 that it's Wakey & they will bring 3 fans & a Whippet.

Generally we have been around the 6,000 - 6,500 mark with a high of 9,000 against Saints, so yes I will be pleased to see 5k on Saturday.

I antixipate we will bring about 1000 unless its a thursday or Friday night across the hills thats about our core away support

Leigh brought about 200-300 fans over to Wakefield, you can't call other teams out for having poor away support when you hardly have many of your own that travel

Did we indeed , so no Leigh fans came by car ? , because we brought 6 coaches carrying 278 fans in total on those 6 coaches

We sold around 600 tickets at our ticket office , so your saying 400 didn't bother travelling after buying tickets ?

A thousand is a very good level of away support.

Does the Pub outside of the ground show sky games ie Catalans v Leeds this week before kick off as im driving over a bit earlier with the Wife.

Also don't get too downhearted if Wakey win on Sat with all of your injuries it is hard atm, But wakey still have Widnes to play twice & Hudds once more and Wire plus catalan are not safe either, So it's not all doom n gloom just yet.

However I don't know where some Leigh fans get this idea that Wakefield's travelling support is poor because it's not and never has been.

We have struggled to build up our home gate but the hard core travel as well as anybodies - you'll get a healthy turn out.

No it doesn't have any TV's. Leigh East club house is 100 yards away and they will have it on or there is The Holiday Inn which will have it on in the bar area if you ask them.

Parking. When we came to the semi final last year we parked at Pennington Flash and walked on a track that came out at the back of the HI Express. Can you park there on 'normal' match days ?
