Not having seen that much of Duffy , I was amazed that he manages to make the Leigh squad given Pauls opinions on fitness , and he doesn't have the variation of skills that Cooky possessed

Shame about John , personally I dont think he was given a fair chance , I heard so often how he was targeted by attackers and that he missed tackles , and yet I kept a particular eye on him in games and he performed at least as well as the rest of our props as regards being caught out in defence , what I do remember is lots of frustration on his part when coming on for spells and making lots of runs , only to be ignored , quite often not recieving a single ball off our hookers over several sets

I played in an open aged kick and clap friendly game yesterday after many, many years of just watching and having opinions. I had truly forgotten how hard it can be to convince yourself to go 100% into the tackle of a snorting beast of a 20something year old who doesn't know the meaning of "don't kill the old guys".
I will still however give what I see as respectfully worded, constructive criticism on players. Always with a mind on the thought that I was never good enough in my day, and I support anyone the coach deems good enough to pull on the Leythers shirt on the pitch.

I played RU, 'in the day' at a fairly high level. But did I have the guts, dedication, etc to play RL at the level these guys do? No way! I doubt if I would even survive the pre-match warm up!!

My thoughts exactly. Cookson never seemed to be given a fair crack of the whip. Every time he came on, he always fired the team up in the same way that Streety did. He always took players out of the game and got a pass away and he had a step on him. I was gutted when they let him go. I couldn't understand it. He should have been given a much better chance. From what I saw of Duffy at the start of the season, he will be a good 'un given the chance.

Bingo. There is a massive incentive to do well next year. With the players Fev are rumored to have signed you cant really look past them for next year which leaves Sheffield, Leigh and Fax probably scrapping for 2nd.

Salary cap?

There may be changes afoot if teams can prove they can spend more money. I think the plan from the RFL will be to have the top teams in the Championship been able to compete with the bottom teams in SL if they go for the split in to 8`s option. Fev and Fax have already splashed the cash for next season, Batley probably dont have the means to spend more than they do, Sheffield its hard to say. In most peoples eyes they probably live above their means but they must have very good income streams to get the players they do. That leaves Leigh and as an outsider looking in I really have no idea if they can compete with the big spenders or if they are still sorting the finances out.

Salary cap shouldn't be any different in 2014 to this year. Overspending in 2014 should result in the club not receiving any monies in 2015. Only my opinion. Also can't see the RFL giving fev too many favours after hearing of all the complaints to the RFL the money man there has caused over the last 2/3 years.

Leigh have already announced that Paul Rowley will have a bigger player budget (i.e. more money, not bigger players

) next season. The new Board is charged with raising that extra funding.
