The past players are an important part of Leigh Rugby, they should be treated as such.
We wouldn't be here without past players, they'd be the ones who've seen us through thick and thin and still want to be here.

As for the PPA, their privileges were abused at Hilton Park, and the stadium management co have the final say in who goes where at the LSV , but one thing is certain, if they refuse to discuss resolving the issue, it wont get resolved, and by the sound of it, we will have a new organisation

So over to them, the ball is in their court, so to speak

Well that would certainly make Keiths statements correct. There are a load of bad feeling towards the LSV but it seems that things are slowley getting sorted and lets hope it continues but a bit quicker.

I very much doubt it to, they don't take theirs down when functions are going on, I know they own the place but Morecambe never took anything down when they played there.

As for the PPA needs resolving but the club can't do anything if they're not willing to discuss it.

We need to get as many folk as possible into a syndicate doing the Euromillions - with the express proviso that once we've won the jackpot, the winnings are used too buy the ground, and donate it to the club!!....an idea I know Glow is very fond of!!

Realistically, how much would need to be raised to buy the ground from the council?

Considering it's costing the council money every year to run the facility, I'd imagine that it could probably be bought for less than the £17.5m it cost to build.

Could the club afford to run it?

Blackburn were just quoted as an example of someone else who uses the facility. Does it matter whether the photos are on walls or on display boards, as long as they are in there?

Going back to the OP, just as having signage, memorabilia and history in the LSV, the players that have graced the previous turf of the club are hugelly important

However there have been problems with the PPA in the past, and they have to realise that things are now different

In the past PPA passes have been used by non players at Hilton Park, that cannot be allowed to happen again, that is the resonsibility of the PPA

The cost cannot be similar to what it was before, it was essentially free at Hilton Park, the cost at the LSV will be similar to a concession price, no less

Unless they are willing to put the past behind them, they wont be part of the future of the club

If the new PPA does come to fruition, it only needs the club to state that this is the only official PPA recognised by the club and the other one will be dethroned so to speak.
So any future stabs by the old one, the club could dismiss it as this body is not recognised by the club.
Job done.

No, but this group were awfully quiet during the troubled times, are they really that bitter and grudge bearing?
I think they would have had more sympathy if they had been seen as getting behind #leighsurvival rather than ignoring it and keeping schtum.

After watching the St Helens ex players last night I hope some people reconsider some of their comments posted. Maybe we should look at ways to raise the PP profiles and include them (the handful of players who attend the matches) in in a more positive way such as Half time draws, interviews in the programmes...

Maybe if the PPA reconsider their refusal to speak to the club, it might get resolved and some of the things you suggest could happen, especially if included in the radio commentary and video coverage

But it isnt the club that have the problem, if you are in contact with the PPA, I suggest you point this out to them

77 posts suggest that there is good interest in the PPA and the club's response to the problem. I feel that bridges have been burnt. I would like to remind others that the PPA doesn't only include the players from "71 and "82 but lots of Leigh lads who thought it was a privilege to play for their hometown club, many who are still carrying injuries in their early 30s. You can't start a new PPA without the original players.
I don't get it, whats better than seeing Mick Martyn at the bar after/ before a game. Use the PPA to remind people of the clubs great history.

If how can the club 'use' the PPA if the PPA are refusing to speak the club, even though their gripes are with previous administrations or not even the club at all?

I do know that some of the "younger" past players have been asked their views and how they can help solve the problem. Maybe this is the way forward to get everyone onboard.
Remember that these players show huge respect to the players of the original PPA and to all players who have put on the Leigh shirt.

Respect is a two-way street and as it was the PPA who went to the press then what respect does that show to the rugby club?

Not only that, it was the PPA who said that there was no chance of reconciliation whilst the club have been bending over backwards to try and resolve the issue.

I'd like to ask Strongintharm how he thinks the issue could be resolved when the current PPA won't even sit down at the table to sort it out?

I don't know why they went to the press. I do know that there has been a problem since we left Hilton Park. I do know that both parties have tried to solve the problem in the past. Maybe that was the only way left for the PPA to get their message / grievances across. Please, when talking about ex players, use the word respect carefully.
