What income streams does the club currently have ?

No , ST s are just another way of getting people to watch a club , if people don't want them , they won't buy them

The ' strategy ' is that like every year at every club , you take a guess at what income you can bring in , and you price and agree contracts accordingly

Nothing to do with being tight , as I said , pay me a couple of hundred and I might have gone , my passion for my country comes well behind my passion for family,friends and the town I picked to live in


My passion for sport starts with the club I support and then the other clubs my club plays against , I am happy to support these clubs , but not players and clubs of competitions and organisations that don't show due respect to the clubs I am willing to support

Your last point is an interesting one , I did actually suggest to my fellow directors that we should all purchase ST s in 2003 , the response wasn't a positive one , volunteers however is one I don't think you understand , who is there matchdays that doesn't either work or pay to get in ?

No, I am not a volunteer, I do pay to watch my club.

OK - I'm a 'volunteer'.

I put in the hours, (with many others) on the PSG, and I reckon editing the programme takes up about three full days a week, when we are at home, obviously. It also costs me money, but I do it because I enjoy it. I also buy a programme each game - although I admit I was given a free one, for the Salford friendly, two years ago!



Next season my wife and I have joined the Touchdown Club. That and the LISA memberships will cost us over an extra £400 for the season. That's our choice, and we fully understand people who can't afford to do it, or don't want to do it. Incidentally, it wouldn't take all that many couples to contribute an extra £400+, and help to get us out of our predicament.

However, I do resent any suggestions that may label me as a free-loader.

If volunteers do end up getting in free then it is down to the fact they do something that would cost the club more to pay for if we were out in the real world.

Much of my extra work is volunteer in nature but I would like to think how much I have saved the club down the years. Rather than how much doing the things I have done have cost me.

Really what is the point in a comp where there are only 9 home league games and there is no P&R!! Why do Leigh supporters get enthusiastic about being Wigan's nursery club. Like my mate Joe said, the only good thing about Wigan is the road back to Leigh. Franchising , the RFL and SDL have killed the game off. I applaud all of you who do the collections and try to raise money for Leigh and good luck to you, but it really is a pointless comp now. It is so sad. I am lucky enough to have seen the best of Rugby League at Leigh in 50 years supporting them, but the whole game in this country is under threat with the idiots running the game. The game will be dead in 10 years time as players leave for Union and the NRL. The only way to save this game is to scrap franchising and bring back P&R and to raise the salary cap throughout the leagues.

And here was me just sat at home thankful that a few people had worked very hard to keep the club in existance.

I think we can all find fault with the club (mine is always child / family ticket policies and poor information streams) but come on lets not forget that 4 weeks ago it was a very real chance that we wouldn't have a club.
Luckily the RFL bailed us out and the people running the club (who we are all happy to take a pop at) actually worked damn hard to keep it in existance.

Our ticket prices are £1.00 cheaper per game than last season.
The ST offer is more expensive, swings and roundabouts, the good thing is you don't need a ST to get in the LSV when Leigh play so you can risk getting the tickets in advance and be sure to get in.

As for the competition we are in, yes without P&R it seems less intense for many when supporting the team, however we will get our biggest gate of the season when we play Wigan's U21's in January - you couldn't get a more meaningless game, so even though I'm totally against franchising and can see the damage it is causing the game in and out of SL the lack of P&R isn't a reason to hold our club back.
Our directors now need to be bold and instead of thinking Leigh is only a small town so 4,000 would be a good gate instead need a mindset of thinking of how many thousands of people live a 20min drive away from the LSV or within a 7 Mile radious - a massive catchement area largely untapped.
Put a team on the park who try to entertain, inform the public about everything you do, get the kids in for virtually nothing and work with all local sports clubs no matter how hard or how pointless it seems and make Leigh Centurions the most talked about thing and THE focal point of the area and Leigh will easily get far better gates than now, if that means volunteers drumming up support or doing that dogwork getting in for nothing then I'll be more than happy to see that happen.

Sorry to say i agree with Jesus.in this present climate money is tight and getting tighter so £170 is to much,we need more bums on seats not less.I will get one anyway but new speckys is what we need

What is the point of attacking the volunteers? They have been the lifeblood that has kept the club alive.
If I were them, I would be disgusted at some of the insinuations,

If it's too much , they just buy individual match tickets , which have gone down in price if bought during the week , and new spectators tend to buy those first before committing to a ST

Exactly, there is, has been and always will be people at Leigh who do things because they love the club and do it foc, they're workers on match days who work... some get paid, some not, but to slate these is deplorable.
