| Well I don't give a s4ite what the pie fans think (or some of our own ) - Dessie over Offiah anyday.
By the way - Dessie was OURS from the start. Was Offiah Wi@ans?

| Des Drummond (Career): Games - 182 Tries - 69
Martin Offiah (Widnes): Games - 145 Tries - 181
Martin Offiah (Wigan): Games - 158 Tries - 186
...And Drummond was the better player?
Probably one of the worst anti-Wigan suggestions I've heard on RLFANS.

In fairness Alex, being a winger isn't [ijust[/i about tryscoring. Indeed, a lot of the memories I read on here about Drummond are related to his defence rather than purely his tryscoring exploits.

Going off that logic, put Gary Connolly at wing and he'd be better than both.
Oh, Jason Robinson was better than Drummond too.

Yes but everyone knows how the pies cheated, lied and robbed the rest of RL and their own breed to allow MO to achieve those stats and that it all ended in tears and a new tesco!

thanks for that, you've just proved my point, and i'm not a wiganer but i do watch a lot of games as a NEUTRAL every year and always have done. john woods was a goalkicker, i'd rank him slightly higher than shirley hesford as a player in this respect. nowhere outside of leigh is he talked about as a class act.

Not completely true, remember seeing on the Wigan board relatively recently that Woody was one of the best players to play against them during the 80's.

Never suggested that you were a wiganer, doesnt matter to me where you are from or who you support YOUR WRONG, to describe John Woods as a goalkicker proves my point. Woody had an all round game great brain, great hands, pace, defence the whole package, if all you saw was his kicking then there is something wrong, as for no one outside of Leigh regarding him as a class act what absolute nonesense,

Look at these stories from mostly Warrington fans if you think no one but Leigh fans hold Des in high regard.

easy there fella!
I think Woods was one of the best natural talents there has been. If he had applied himdeld and looked after himself he would have been a GB player no doubt.
Still think you are wishing with thinking Des was better than Offiah.

| I don't know why we are even bothering discussing the merits of Des and Woody with these 'idiots' from Wi@@n and elsewhere! I can tell them regarding halbacks, John Woods at stand off and, Alex Murphy at srum half are better than anyone to have represented their clubs! As for Dessie, his exploits on 'Superstars' put Rugby League in the showcase, a superb all round Athlete and Superstar!

| It does have to be said that Woody IMO was the greatest natural talent I have ever seen and yes its a pity he didnt apply himself to the sport as did a player like Edwards who was again a natural talent but worked hard at it and thus made his name, plus it did help him being in a team which at the time was far and away the best in the sport.
As for wingers Boston was the best, Offiah was a great try scorer but with the centres he had who wouldnt have been he had lots of natural pace and balance and the two (well three) combined made him a great player. Dessie never had that luxury of playing outside great centres and fed off scraps which, again IMO, made him the better winger, Robinson was better than both.
Woods did play for GB (in a number of positions which showed his versatility) and would have played many more but he seemed to prefer darts and dominoes over playing for his country but that was the greateness of the player he just didnt care tuppence yet what an amazing player on his day, he gave his 100% on the field not off it unfortunately.

He certainly does. I remember asking him about Woody and Edwards and he said that Woody was without doubt the best player he ever had playing for him and he couldn't be matched for his natural talent. The only way that Edwards had the edge over Woody was his determination, but for natural skill and ability, it was Woody every time.
