| I remember my mates dad, scrum half, telling me a tale of when he made his Salford debut against Leigh.
He went blind side from a scrum and shot over in the corner, on the way back CP advised him not to do that again, being full of the joys of youth he tried it again later in the game.
Waking up a few minutes later CP did remind him of his advice.
CP terrified the Aussies on tour, they tried to get him banned, I understand on one occassion he scragged the Aussie wonder boy over the touchline and threw the ice bin over him.
How many tourist forwards have we had, ever!!

There are many great players left out, ball playing loose forwards,Pinner & Foster, hard men, Pawsey,Grimes and Smethurst etc however, with Murphy in the team we didn't them, Murph was simply the best player& Coach I have ever seen and with these players at his disposal we would have been unbeatable! my opinion, of course!

| I think some people are still missing the point - this is a 'dream' team, not the 'best you have watched' team. What I'm really after is a mix of new and old players who could be considered the best ever Leigh team.
TBH I don't want the dream team to consist of players from the mid seventies onwards because frankly most of them aren't a patch on the older players, however there are one or two that do deserve their place. Just consider that a player doesn't get a reputation of being a great player because one person thinks they were good, they get it because they were good.

I know what you are trying to achieve but it is difficult to comment on players you have not seen and have only heard about. The problem here is that maybe there are not as many "mature" keyboard operators who frequent this site.
Tell you what I will do, I will interview the old fella who is nearly 78 and come back and put his dream team down. Its only been the last couple of years were he has not managed to get to many games so 70 years or so for him to choose from!
Maybe others on here could do the same?

Cheers pal, that would be a great help.
I just can't get my head around the fact that Alex Murphy for example wouldn't make our dream team!!

By the way, he did mention that he knows Pawsey played predominantly in the 2nd row however, this would still be his "dream team"

| As voting stands at the moment John Woods is considered to be Leigh's best ever player - he's the only one who got 100% of votes for his position. The next would be Des Drummond because one person didn't put him in his team at all!
This is Leigh's dream 1-7 line up at the moment
1 Turley (7 votes) Hogan (6 votes)
2 Drummond (25 votes)
3 Donlan (13 votes)
4 Lewis/Bilsbury (8 votes each)
5 Walsh (13 votes)
6 Woods (26 votes)
7 Murphy (19 votes)
Those numbers may not be exact because I've just done a quick count - but I think our dream team is looking pretty good up to now.
Thanks everyone but keep 'em coming, the forwards are bit harder to count but I'll get round to it soon.
BTW I've obviously treated Vikingman's contribution with the contempt it deserves!

| I'm having a problem with the forwards as the voting is very tight for the no's 11 & 12 shirts.
I've got Clarke with 9 votes, Tommy Martyn with 7 votes, Mick Martyn with 8 votes and 6 votes go to an unnamed Martyn, which could be a vote for either Tommy or Mick - I don't know which.
Other than that the vote is:
8 Wilkinson (9 votes)
9 Ashcroft (10 votes)
10 Street (10 votes)
11 ?
12 ?
13 Bristow (6 votes)
I think the choices for the subs should be chosen as such:
Each person chosen in their position will keep their votes and if they are voted a place on the subs bench, they will get a point added on - the four players with the highest overall votes gets a place - does everyone agree that this is a fair way to choose?
PS can anyone help me solve the riddle of the Martyns?

Swap my 12. Westhead and 13. Tommy Martyn Snr around if it helps.
Westhead started a lot of games with 13 on his back but for me was a quality, strong running and fiersome defender of a 2nd row and TM Snr started most games with 11/12 on his back but had greater ball playing skills than Johnny so quite easily could have been a loose in this day and age. I wanted them both in and felt that they were better suited in the positions I chose.I think Wembley 71 has done something similar.
Unless of course you have included TM Snrs 13,s as a vote for 11 and 12

| You'll never produce a formula hat keeps everyone happy, Mishmash!
There's a case to say you have to look at the records... I never saw Bill Kindon play, but for donkeys he was the club's record try scorer. I didn't see Legard, either, but he surely must be the best fullback we've had... look at his international record, and his price tag! Pawsey, Egan, Mick Martyn, Murphy, Drummond... again, on their stats records, they have to be in, even though many on the board won't have seen any of them, and few if any on the board will have seen all of them.
The different opinions is all part of the fun

Did my 'namesake' never get a mention from your old fella?? From what I have heard he was a bit of a legend in the old Mather Lane days!! (tales of wrestling exhibitions as pre-match entertainment!!)
Challenge Cup winning captain, and Lions Tourist.....the AJM of his day!!
