I'd suggest that we also have to work 'hand-in-hand' with the RFL, to make sure we can move with the goalposts. That's what Steve O'Connor says Widnes have done. (although he didn't actually mention the goalposts bit! )

Partly because of what the French adventure is costing the RFL, and partly because those two teams could do more for the cause of French RL, by playing in the French league, rather than 'ours'.'"
Fancy wanting a strong french league instead of a ESL, Bloody flatcapper.

no offence taken mate,on the contrary what you say makes sense but the RFL seems to have embraced this great 'expansionist' vision which they intend continuing with.
Maybe Catalans & TO back in a re-vamped LER would be a good thing for french RL ?
I don't know to be honest but all I can say is that Catalans have a strong SL fanbase even when the team is down the wrong end of the league.
TO is a different case IMO and probably would enhance the LER and ultimately end up being a 'feeder' league for the Catalans and consequently, the french national team.

But in reality what were the chances of the RFL kicking out one of these failing SL clubs that had not delivered in order to make way for us?'"
The RFL were impressed that Barrow had shown intent to be in Super League by submitting an application. Leigh should have done the same to show they mean business.

They would have dearly liked to. However, there were a number of criteria they didn't meet - especially not having won the Northern Rail Cup, or appeared in a Grand Final. If they had applied, the application wouldn't even have been read by the RFL.
Bearing in mind that their application a few years ago, cost a lot of money, they would just have been wasting everyone's time, unfortunately.

We weren't eligible to apply as we hadn't won the Northern Rail Cup or contested a Grand Final.

not funny at all mon ami - you would be surprised the amount of brits who have moved over since the mid 90s (hundreds of thousands) - most french are fed up with them draining the system. Many come over thinking it's the Promised Land and the first place they head for is the Social Security office to see how much they can scrounge off the state ! I have a really close friend who is an 'Assistante Sociale' - excuse me,but I don't know the english equivalent but it would be like a Councellor or a Social Security adviser who deals with families/individuals with social problems etc (Social Worker ?) - she reckons 25% of her clientele are british, looking for state aid or benefits most of whom speak no french or make no effort to do so.
This unfortunately, gives all the brits a bad name including the many tens of thousands that come over to retire and are perfectly well integrated into the french system.

| Well Social benefits are bigger for the umemployed in France as opposed to the UK I think.
What has always astonished me about Brits is' moving abroad and making little or no attempt to learn the language of their new country which seems a little foolish to me.
Quite honestly the same sort of thing in reverse always annoys me too but most seem to be able to converse in all honesty.
I think it is a peculiar British trait but as notre amie Sanjunien proves there are some who do.
Us Leythers always seem to turn heads in the Melting Pot with our rather unique language and we always seem to get enough beer. Suppose it is because we are a cut above most RL towns with our rather unique linguistical abilities.

What's good for the goose etc.
Somehow this kind of story gets buried normally...
And yes, lets get Les Cats and Toulouse back in the French league. 2 strong teams will really make the competition strong, it'll be just like the Scottish Football Premier League.

interesting story tho' you can make figures mean what you want sometimes - these figurers are the 'official' figures I assume, not counting all the thousands of illegal immigrants including brits who come to france illegally ie : living in france and claiming benefits in both countries ! I know many who are getting away with this.I know loads of families claiming for example 'Child Benefit' in france & the UK and a mate of mine was claiming 'Incapacity Benefit' in both countries for many years till he got found out in Torquay.Problem is,we're not talking about a few cases but literally thousands probably tens of thousands at least.
Most of the decent brits coming to france for retirement etc are being tarred with the same brush and resentment is growing.

Are Lezignan so far ahead of the rest of the pack that that would be the case? Are Toulouse that much better than the rest?
