Andy will be the first to admit he didn't get the group together Keith, at the time nobody was willing to take ownership and give some direction after the players hadn't been paid. Interested parties met, financial commitments given and aspects of the clubs running allocated. Derek paid the players wages and we just about got the winding up order sorted, thanks to Michael, John and Derek.

It was the platform that got the club moving again and ignited the dream inside the one willing and able to dig deep to realise it. You need serious cash to be successful as a small town club to get to the top table today, the relatively small amounts we put in would not get us there but
keeping the club breathing and then to move it forward off the pitch is something Andy, myself and others no longer involved are probably extremely proud to have been a part of.

I'm only speculating, but I'm sure there is a commercial pay-off for AB and any other DB companies with Leigh being in Super League - I'm sure this was in the business plan. And that's a good thing if both can sustain each other commercially. Personally I think Derek has done a great job and this current injury crisis is really sad to witness as the whole team from top to bottom deserve more. Maybe we'll have a good run of form going into the last third of the season and into the 8s. To replicate that ebullient optimism from the 8s last season, bang the first half of the Huddersfield game on, what a 40 minutes that was, and on paper the squad wasn't as good as this year. Absolutely superb!

I would speculate any commercial payment will be donated to charity..

I believe Rugby League, as a sport, is low on 'characters' (i.e. individuals who bring the sport to the attention of the public) these days. When such people emerge, we shouldn't knock them for everything they do - providing their actions do not harm the sport.

It's definitely low on characters Alan, but I'd prefer my characters to actually play the sport and not be the people who should sit quietly in the background. Do you not think it must be embarrassing for Jukesy to rarely get a mention when Leigh are in the news? I cringe every time I see the words 'Leigh owner....'. I reckon more people know his name than they do the rest of the team and that can't be right. Surely the whole world now knows he's sunk a fortune into the club. Cool. Enough already. We know. I'm not exactly privy to who is running what on team affairs, but I do know that another 'character' at Salford - a good mate of our owner, I believe, would appear to have let his coach, Ian Watson, get on with things, and a very good job he seems to be doing too!

Out of the two I thought Marwan came across much better than Derek who just presented himself as cocky and untrustworthy. The one person who came out of it worst of all though was Gaz Hock, who was shown to be duplicitous at best and a downright liar at worst and I wonder if he had any say in those two clowns fighting the case in such a public arena? It just shows that there's nothing Derek won't do to get his face in front of the camera.

Saddened to say, Mish, that you are coming across a tad badly in this thread. There is apparently some history 'twixt Derek and your good self, and it is further clear that this arose when your laudable efforts on behalf of the club were not recognised. It is, however, probably a good idea to only criticise the bloke on occasion rather than at any little chance to be had - keeping powder dry usually leads to people cogitating further on your views. Balance!

Derek And Marwan were just extras in the Rinder show, he doesn't half love himself. It is the first time I have seen a courtroom where the judge asks the question, gives the answer and asks if it was right. As mentioned above, the three of them didn't do Hock any favours. Trash TV at its best.

Marwan and Derek, self made millionaires employing people who provide for their families and grow the wealth of the state being put down by a MB moderator with a huge chip to carry. Only in Leyth.

Just to put the record straight, recognition form Derek was neither wanted or needed as myself and my partner chose to quit running the radio broadcasts when DP was able to do them himself (and I was having increasing problems with my back) nothing more, nothing less. Also the support group had already disbanded as the club was back on it's feet and our services were no longer needed in the same way as they were before the new group took over. We were all happy about that as at times the club was literally hours away from going bust.

You're right though, I do have issues with Derek but not for anything he's done to me, in fact (and I have mentioned this on here before) he once did a really nice thing for my daughter and for that, I thanked him then and I thank him now. That doesn't take away from the fact that I do have issues but unfortunately they aren't things I can write about on here.
