| Because they own Barton Stadium.
Sale RUFC are not performing too well and their fans are not too fond of the place. Without Salford the stadium is a white elephant.

Why does it matter how well sale are playing?9000 reported on the other night and if reports are right then arent they paying 40k a game for the privilage of playing there?
Were salford paying 80k a game until sale moved in?

| Which i'd think can only be city or united.
You also have to remember this is a community stadium so it isn't, or shouldn't be, just for those that can pay large chunks of money out

That last sentence sounds oddly familiar!
It would have to be United reserves as City have invested quite a bit of cash in Hyde FC's ground as a reserve base while they await building another stadium near the Etihad.
Would also add that Sale would be up the creek if they got relegated. The jump in revenue is even worse than if a club got relegated from Super League.

When Sale first moved in, the media were reporting that Salford's rent was £750k per year and that Sale would now be paying half. Sounds excessive to me and makes me think what a good deal we have with LSV.
However, that is also why our SL application suddenly seemed more attractive - we wouldn't be reliant on gates of 10k, because our rental arrangements wouldn't be cripplng us.

| I also feel for the players at this time of year who may have taken out loans to pay for a car or holiday on the strength of a contract there. They will just be in a queue behind HMRC if it hits the fan.

| I understood our unique position was that the LSV cost nothing to build, in so far as it was built in return for land elsewhere, and as such we have a mutual benefit to locate and are NOW working much better together to find it.
beLEIGHve, Leigh will be in SL very soon.

At present, I don't think SL wants us though, even if we were ready.

| I still only want to see us in SL when it returns to part time. If we're struggling at the level we're at, we'll struggle even more in SL.

| Goodo Skoots, we need SL to survive otherwise support will gradually drop off as the core base gets older.

We need the money to buy a team that can compete in SL and the only way that comes about is if you are IN SL and the same goes for any team in the Championship.

| Very few transfer fees these days so buying a team is not a problem. We should get great revenues from all the corporate we have and should easily compete with the Cas/Wakey/Slford/HKR/London/Widnes sector of SL

| All very well Mo but how are their wages going to be paid from a no P & R league with minimul attendences and no prospects of that changing any time soon ?
I'm happy to stay as a biggish fish in the Championship than go bust reaching for the stars .

Understand your worries. However, the club and LSV have compiled a SL budget and believe they could be highly competitive, paying good wages on surprisingly small 'gates'.

Change the word 'could' for 'will' and I totally agree

| Little Leyther mentality has held this town back for 40 years. We have a great location just off the M6 for road transport links but need a train station to complete the picture. We have industrial land a plenty, cheap housing and a generally work orientated population.
We have a fantastic stadium in a great location, a great relationship at last with LSV Co and a huge populus within 5 miles to attract.

Apologies R.O. - that was my cautious approach. I'm certain if you asked Keith Freer, Trevor Barton, Simon Toon etc. they would use the word 'will' - they have done the sums and are very positive.

Your dead right Maurice and the fact that the big four supermarket chains have built or extended their superstores in a small town in Wigan proves that there is a plan somewhere for more investment. A rail link is a must for Leigh now and the sooner the better.

Mo , you forgot we're also in a prime location for commuting to the metropolises of Manchester and Liverpool . Can we attract these new interlopers down to the LSV that aren't grounded in the game ? .
Sorry for appearing a little Leyther but we're going to need a sustained 5 year plus plan that isn't going to break the bank before we can get that foothold in the SL , that is if and when the muppets at Red Hall finally see sense and bring back P & R .
I do have ambitions to see a healthy Leyth team in the SL but I fear it will come at a cost , so I hope that we can come up with a cunning plan to prepare ourselves to be a yo-yo club for a few years yet retaining any quality players we can attract and set our goal no higher than 2nd bottom of the SL initially so that we can build up gradually without going pop .
I agree though that with the bigger games will come bigger crowds and therefore more money to spend on the squad , I just hope we can get the right team behind the scenes to manage the dosh and not go all in for an all or nothing approach .
But hey ho let's give it a go . It just needs carefull planning .

| well I had written a long rambling post about all that is wrong about RL, then I deleted it. Lets face it Salford will be bailed out, and continue on like nothing has ever happened.
However, until that happens I will continue to annoy any Salford fan that comes into contact with me. After all they have been dishing it out to me for decades.
I do not want them to go under. I just want them relegated to C1 and have to rebuild from there.
