Personally found it difficult to draw any conclusions, good or bad, after the game to be fair. Was a typical pre-season friendly in bad conditions. Lots of interchanges and at times very scrappy.

Big questions for me will be how many minutes can we get out of Vaivai and Patrick when it comes to the big games, and do we have the coaching staff to develop the likes of Dezaria, Bergal, Owens etc... to get the best out of them.

Thought it was a good hit out by both teams but the kicking game by Wigan was far superior thans leighs and we defiantly need to improve on that if we want get out of the middle 8s

Plenty of posiitives in our performance yesterday.

Jordan Thompson was my MOM, with an impressive performance throughout.

Derzia looked good also, ran powerfully, eager for work and caused Wigan problems, especially with off loads.

If Powell is Wigan's first choice 7 then Shaun Wane would have concluded as I did, he is not a patch on Drew Hutchison. Who looks every bit the very talented half back.

Matautia also looks classy in the centres.

Negatives?

1) Sadly Acton does not look like he wants to play Rugby League this season. If Jukes picks him against Toronto then he is only proving he has roughly the same number of rocks in his head as Acton as in his. it will inevitably ensure we have just 12 men for that match.

2) I was frozent dearth though out.

Why wouldn't a coach pick his best forward in the biggest game of the season. Acton will be fine.

SO frustrating regarding Acton.. showed both ends of the scale yesterday 2 massive hits on clubb and navaratte which cause turn overs and some really strong carries.. however their is a fine line with niggle and he needs to sort that. He would however be one of the first names on my team sheet

Regarding Acton he has to play right on the line to get the best out of him and if that means a couple of free kicks so be it but if u try and knock that part out of his game he won't be the same player,for me it's the petty stuff he does now and again like last year with the trip on Williams that got him a ban and the thing with bird that got him banned for the 8s not the aggressive stuff that u need from ur front row

I don't think anyone is saying that we want him to take the aggression out of his game. Yesterday he made a couple of big carries that had defenders bouncing off him, he also put in some big hits one of which left him with stitches to his head. Keep these but stop the antics of patting opposition players on the head when they've made a mistake, pushing and shoving people and the silly little penalties described above. Theres no need for it and it makes him a target with referees.

I wonder how many they'll play at home? Home games against Halifax and Toulouse are now being played in this country, so that only leaves nine maximum. That could make life difficult for them.

This is the problem-James Green man of the match yesterday v.Leeds yesterday with Daryl Powell looking for him to start in the first league match while Martin Ridyard was outstanding for the Giants last season and now for Feb. this, so I wouldn’t hold your hopes up!!!

In fairness, from the moment that Leythe were relegated, he became a free (in every sense) agent. Neither the Giants nor any other SL club was swarming to make Ridy an offer. Loved the fellah - a Leyther. Wish him well at Fev - though a stinker in both games against us.

Yet to see the new team and, with the return to 3pm Thursday, will not see much this year. Reliant on TV and the comments of trusted ones on here.

KC's record in that dept does not bode very well, only a blind man would not see how greatly not only the individual player's but the entire team improved once Saints were shut of him.
No denying he has done very well in enticing players to the club, but isn't that his job?
It was said that KC was influencial in replacing McNally with Hampshire against Catalan in the MPG, totally stupid decision, albeit Hampshire did not have a bad game by his own standards, what we greatly missed was McNallys abillity to chime into the line making the extra man, something he has done with aplomb for a very long time, and something that was sadly missed in that game, a hunch putting Hampshire in did not pay off, but in what was the most important game of the season was that the right time to play a hunch, or go with something the team are familiar with.

TO point that as a major reason for losing is stupid. Yes I think mcnally would of been a better option however the players were poor not Cunningham.. let's give it a full season under KC before bitching

We lost quite a few games when McNally played last year as well. The decision to play Hampshire had no bearing on the proceedings.

Re Jamie Acton v Toronto.


Paul Rowley will come to the LSV with the most simple 3 point game plan to beat Leigh

1) Get Acton sent off, the earlier the better.

2) Get the ball to Brierley, to fling a long over the top ball to the left edge. two out of three ballswill catch Matty Dawson asleep, drifting .

3) Most imperative, See point number one.

We can't say we are not warned here. Acton does not have the maturity or presence of mind to identify it or to deal with it. Rowley knows it.

Theres was quite a few comments made to Acton in that match. Vaivai,Hansen and Mr Hicks most notably. He just needs to learn to take those comments on board.

Would like to see the stats for young Nick Gregson in that match. Think he tackled a complete set on his own.

Not really sure KC had any influence whatsoever with the MPG. What is fact,is this new team is part of his influence.

Well, at the 'meet the players' evening, the owner did say that Acton wouldn't be anywhere near Leigh, when we play Toronto!

Not a bad call, although this will be just the kind of test he will have to face.

Don't see the point in avoiding it,theres a full season ahead.

Possibly Alan could say in what context DB made that statement! That way you can stop reading into things that are not there.
