Without the concept, the season would be longer than 23 rounds, and ultimately it's who finishes 12th (ie, when you consider there are 11 teams above the MPG) and 13th after 30 rounds. Leigh would have been relegated after a 30 round season anyway. It gives the relegated team a second chance.

I do think they should go to bottom 6 and top 2 of Championship, as too many lightweight sides in there, but maybe have it as pure relegation for the bottom two rather than the stress of it all one game.

I do think the clubs should think of it as a second chance to avoid what they have already achieved, the relegation spot, rather than the current ethos, but hope it goes okay next year. Personally, I can see you swapping with Salford with Marwan's money going.

Without wishing to sound condescending I think Leigh should take a good look at how we, Hull Kr, reacted after the MPG last year. You have a passionate chairman and a good support base. Use this opportunity to reshape the club and come back stronger. We have shown it is possible, good luck for next season.

Only the fans and clubs involved in this game know how truly horrible this is. It's not like football, the whole league structure isn't full time. To decide things on one game and then literally have people unemployed on the outcome is crazy. I experienced it last year so know how you feel. I also thought that was us done for super league but we've also proved you can get back!

Before anyone starts coming on here having their 2 penneth worth. YES, We are not good enough for SL, so what happens now is that we have to regather and put ourselves in a position so that we can bounce back and prove that we CAN/WILL challenge for a spot at the top table. Can we? Time will tell.

Leigh hammered Cats away.But today's performance was similar to the Widnes game in that as a neutral I was left scratching my head how a team can be so good one week then look clueless week after? Respect to Leigh, enjoyed see in you at Broncos last week. The MPG is blx. I have always said the optimum league structure for rugby league, a game that needs to harness its roots but at the same time recognise it needs to grow to survive, has now to expand the elite level, maintain the dream for clubs outside the top level, facilitate the best crowds (derbies), revenue, attractiveness to sponsorship. The only way is by 2 largely ‘geographic’ conferences of 8 teams. Teams play their own conference home and away, the other conference home or away, one of which is Magic. Conferences play offs and a GF. Bottom of each conf play off to play top of Championship for promo/releg. 21 games, play offs, leaves for restructured Challenge Cup (final in May) and Conference ‘State’ of Origin. The first conferences formed at the end of next season, 12 SL teams plus top 4 in Championship (invited). No salary cap, no overseas limit. Minimum criteria to be reviewed. The conferences could look like 1) Leigh Wigan Warrington St Helens Widnes Salford Toulouse Catalans 2) Leeds Hull Hull KR Castleford Wakefield Huddersfield Toronto London (or Fax or Fev or Barrow, .......) - what’s not to like and we do away with this stupid MPG.

Im gutted for you lot. I think the bottom team should go, this year it was us, we weren't good enough, end of. We have got out of jail big time. I hope Leigh come straight back, the frogs offer zero to SL. Fair play to DB comments, but as a Widnes fan tonight, I have genuine sympathy with Leigh fans tonight. Im positive we will cross paths in next years middle 8's, but I genuinely hope you paste the Toronto wannabes. I think you will keep hold of most of your players and be stronger for going down.

To be fair,On that showing today,we have got we deserved. We have a full season now to put right what we have failed on. But lessons must be leaned that's for sure. Will we learn them? I hope so.

Sympathies-
But to those who are saying it's one game... it's not. Teams are given a whole season to show they have what it takes.
Leigh's s fell out in the final game.... but they were in that game because they weren't a top 8 side for 23 rounds- and weren't a top 3 side of the rest.
I do think however that teams coming up should be given a years "grace" to enable them to sort contracts etc.
Leigh will still be a better side than the rest in the championship. So I expect them to be challenging next season.

Unlucky to leigh today (wish widnes would of been there cos of betts)think how its all down to one game is unfair had these teams won enough sl games or sl qualifies games they wouldnt be playing in this game anyway.as for the concept i think its great but im wakey and 2 years ago we where rock bottom then scraped in into mpg and the rest is history

As a neutral, although of the two I would have liked Leigh to win, I have to say that was dreadful to watch.

Perhaps this game should be played before the top four playoff games. Because the gulf in class is too marked. After Cas vs Saints and Leeds vs Hull we are treated to this shoite.
Perhaps do away with it altogether.

I imagine losing in the MPG feels worse than the old system . But ive watched Cas get relegated twice and more recently be 30 mins from being liquidated. This season was always going to tough , especially with some of the players in the squad (not trying to sound condesending) . Good luck next season and I sincerely hope you come up at the first attempt.
