Childs should ov waved play on and gone to vid ref as he did with Rileys and left the decision to Vid ref. Perhaps he didnt want to upset Reffy and co

Why would Childs go to the video ref when he was clearly offside. A referral should only be made when the ref is unsure. I am no lover of Childs as he often makes poor decisions but this was one of his easier correct ones.

The laws relating to offside at the scum have been explained to you. Do you think the defeat was a combination of Leigh throwing the match away and poor reffing decisions? Maybe if you can convince yourself he was onside you might yet beat Wakey.

The law is so out of date it is difficult to know how or where he became offside. The scrum half not putting the ball in to the scrum has to retire behind the back row of his own forwards. Then what? Where does it say he has to stand there until the ball re-appears or he can't move from that position? In days gone by when scrums were actually scrums the scrum-half had to retire to the back of the scrum but could follow the ball through the scrum and as long as he didn't get in front of the ball he was onside. The rule on this and feeding the scrum still talks about putting the ball in the tunnel between the two front rows, so who has decided when the scrum-half is offside?

If he was behind the back row of his forwards when the ball was put in the scrum then he is onside. It doesn't say what happens next or where he has to be when the ball comes out. It only talks about the other players not connected with the scrum being 5 yards back when the ball comes out!!!!

This happens in every match , so why is a penalty never given ?

Because the ball isn't in play until the ball leaves the scrum. Thank god it is the last one.

How was it obvious? The hands on the ball happened in the same frame as reilly getting a boot on it. As for the offside, pretty certain it said that in the following weeks rugby press so yes it was offside.

Oooh, I've got a question!

The RFL introduced a new interpretation of obstruction, the one that allows you to throw yourself on the floor to avoid conceding a penalty. Is there are random element to the decision on the new interpretation - "throw a dice, roll a 6 - it's a penalty!" - or are referees simply proving incapable of understanding what is supposed to be happening?

It's giving me an internal struggle as I decide if I should be incandescent with rage when a penalty is given for obstruction or when it's not because the player lied down to have his belly tickled.

P.S. I do understand that if you try to take advantage of the obstruction then it is a penalty.

That is when it started to go wrong, there has been too many interpretations that cloud the issue. Attacking player prevents defender tackling ball carrier then a penalty is awarded for obstruction. That will do.

Should have been obvious for the TJ,he was a matter of feet away.And after viewing the video, Brierley wasn't actually offside,the ref missed the pace..
