Reffy you are very much RIGHT , there IS a distinct similarity between the 2 offers as you state , but as far as I know Centurions TV is not available for free , making it good value for money , im glad I subscribed .

Well I have all copies of every game and whilst I am still doing this job they will not appear free anywhere, I can't say it much plainer than that.

As long as the games stay available to view at my leisure I'm all for it too. If I'm paying for the privilege, I'd like to be able to watch them when I want and as many times as I want.

The question is Mish how long do we keep them on for? Realistically how many people will want to watch leigh v York months after the game has been played?

I'm not sure but I think they should be kept longer than a month and then the special/big games should be archived.

For instance I may want to pass a rainy afternoon in the future by watching a re run of our splendid NRC win at Featherstone. Are we saying that may disappear completely from all viewing within a month? i.e gone by now?

Brainwave !!!!!!! If there is a game you want to watch over and over maybe Fred could burn you a DVD for say £5. If it appears anywhere free to view then whoever posts it is breaching copyright.

I believe the favoured option from Stefan and Fred, is to purchase more storage - and that will hopefully be the one put to the BOM.

I may as well just buy the DVD's instead, more money in to the club's coffers that way as well.

So to keep every game available for watching forever means that games will have to be uploaded in a smaller file size thereby reducing quality, or just have it as a Games only service, or substantially increase the monthly payment to cover a larger VIMEO bill because my guess will be that we have to purchase even more and more server space unless an idea put forward by someone on here to me that I have passed on to Stefan can be utilized.

A bit of feedback for the debate !

I probably fall into the bracket of not being able to watch the games in a months period as primarily I'm too busy at work to be able to watch the games in full again.

I suppose my preference is highlights rather than a entire game (as I stand more chance of watching them) so if we was moving some games after a month I'd prefer any highlights to be left on as long as possible as I would watch them again, I did optimistically plan to watch all the games when I had my holiday break (or at least 1 match a night with a few cold ones !) but I can fully understand the need for taking games off if space is at a premium as it makes sense.

A long shot (and mindful of Fred's explanation some time ago about the time constraints when putting highlights together) is if taking games off LCTV would it be possible at some point to put the tries from those games as a highlights package so there is still some link or would that just be replacing one large file with another and creating a totally unrealistic workload for the guys who edit all the footage ?

No the file size of HLS even in HD are far smaller than a game would be in ordinary DVD quality, HLS's are not impossible to do but weeks like the one just gone- wed u20's, thur 1st, fri easts, and sat miners plus editing and coding up 3 interviews, whilst uncommon the work load is big, too big in fact for one person that I am hoping will change, especially if people want the 'light entertainment' progs.
TBH this thread was to gain peoples views and as far as Im concerned it is the majority that wants the games kept up but and this must be understood they can't stay up for ever and a day the cost would be prohibitive, like I said there may be an answer just let us explore it and speak to the BOD's.
But they will not be on youTUBE (at least my copy won't be)for free it devalues the product people are paying money out to see.

This seems to be getting very complicated for something which, to be honest, is very simple. We do it all the time on Leighlife and I'd guess we have tons more stuff on there. We've been going for 10 years and nothing has ever been deleted. It doesn't cost a great deal of money either.

Well that's a bit silly isn't it? If they did that everyone would be able to see them just like they would if they put them on You Tube.

And that is the crux of the matter, we needed a site that distributes as well as stores and VIMEO is by far and above the cheapest for our needs, to store every game per season and for them to be available to veiw would be approx £350 per season, that means £700 next season, £1400 the season after, £2800 and so on and so on, because it is only a 12 months contract to use them every year.
I used to have webspace to host video and when I ended the contract the server just deleted everything as is their right to do so if you do not pay.
That is why it is not simple and it does get expensive, on a distribution/storage site.

So the most cost effective method is to delete them after a month which is where we came in, it will be acceptable to most subscribers; as mentioned earlier, particular favourites could be purchased on video. It wouldn't be good business sense to increase costs to the majority at the whim of a the odd dissentor.

How about reserve some of the space for one or two games which are over a month old ie have been taken off after the month, which could be changed weekly or fortnightly.

Brilliant I didn't understand this was so "simple" to do! What do Leigh life currently do for storing 2gb at a time video files using a hosted platform with links to a subscription based system? How do you host video play back that supports High Definition content? Can you advise in the meeting on Thursday your suggestions and how you are going to incorporate these into the system. also you will need to consider how this change can be made to current system as it has been written to support VIMEO. Maybe a "simple" task for the folks at Leigh Life?

Just asking you to back up your comment about it being "simple", i am very interested on how you think this can be done. maybe my development team have missed a trick when designing this system?

No one is saying you should store the videos on Leighlife, that was just Reffy's sarcastic suggestion.

As I said earlier, there's nothing wrong with the system you use - just the length of time you plan on keeping the videos on it so please don't try to make an argument where there is none.

We all have different ways of doing things - that's just the way it is.

the problem is when using terms like its "simple" when actually you know nothing about how the system has been set up or how its configured is both derogatory and insulting.

im not continuing this on an open forum i suggest you put forward your "solutions" at the next meeting.
