| Quote ="Starbug"Are attendances in SDL dropping?
Frank, I'm all for ' inovation ' , but idea's just to hit a target, which afterwards beomes obsolete are not the answer
Lets say Fev do manage to entice an extra 3/400 to their games from away fans and neutrals , will those fans continue to attend if Fev were granted a licence ( since that appears to be part of the purpose of the initiative )?
The answer is No, so then having ' ticked the box ' they find themselves starting from a low point again
They need Featherstone Rovers fans, not occaisional Leigh,Fax,Batley fans or Cas and Wakey fans, because once in SL, they wouldn't be able to continue with the offer and fans of other SL clubs would then see them as competitors , not just an occaisional extra cheap match
So inovate yes, but for the right reasons'"
Fair enough but I am convinced crowds for all clubs (apart from HKR) were better when we had P & R.
So sadly when London Broncos's backer throws his towel in we continue with this crazy idea and we will eventually end up with 5 untouchables and an amateur game. Even the biggest club in this countries RL game will go the same way followed soon after by the other 5 and soon after that it is kick and clap rules again. Or does it already ? Didn't use to do before they introduced P & R and paid players.
Could anyone tell me why the RFU did that ?
Our ruling body ie the RFL took the Sky money and esentially gave it to the best supported clubs. Since then ? We still can't compete with the Aussies. We used too and switching between codes was the other way round.

| Well done to Fev, what were they priced at?
As for attracting away supporters, well IMO its away support that generally creates the atmosphere, and improves the match day experience for all, this in turn can then encourage more home support.

| Some good sensible posts on here ... Are you all ill? Haha . Home games are pretty boring tbh. A good away following like GLOW says will make match day experience better. This will then encorouge people to come

| Not at £18 it wont mate especially when you know those away fans are getting in £8 cheaper than you the atmosphere you talk about will come from all the away fans laughing their heads off at the mugs who are paying £18

I think you're seriously overestimating how many away fans will actually be season ticket holders to be honest mate, and even then won't we be doing exactly the same at Fev next week and hopefully other clubs during the season?

| I dont think i am Matt fans who travel tend to be die hards and ST holders, if leigh do the same is irrelavant as this does not make this anymore paletable for the walk up leigh fan paying £18 when an away fan can get in for £10 it bloody stinks infact!
If someone can tell me how this will grow "our" support base, nobody has so far then i will except it and move on And pray it works!!

But Leythers can still get in the North Stand for £14 if they buy before 5pm day before the game at the latest and people who go in the West stand get in at the same price as last season if they do the same.
We do not have Widnes visiting this season and our games against Fax Fev and Batley are going to be televised.
How many fans will other Championship clubs bring ?
Lets be honest and think about this. Folk who live in Leigh and care about our club come already.
I still think this will work in the long run the only difference imo is that kids under 11 should get in for free and we should think about introducing family priced tickets and offer a 5 game ticket discount for non season ticket holders.

| This argument about prebuying tickets does not and will not work floating fans need to rewarded for coming putting Barriers like charging the more for buying on the day stops people from coming!
Even if the prepurchased that's still £4 more that an away ST holder and in my option of course bloody stinks

Which was the thinking behind the free coach travel, who remembers our fleet up to Gateshead a couple of years ago? Because we had a large number of fans meeting up together and travelling together it made the day an ' event ' , it felt like a big meaningful game ( yes I know it was very important )
The idea would be to visit the away club a couple of weeks before playing them on a home game day for them and challenge their fans to come and outsing, outchant, watch us lose, batter them, we supply tickets to a section of our stadium, every adult that buys a ticket gets a coach seat, anybody traveling by their own transport buys a ticket and free's up a kids coach seat
The idea would be to get half of a clubs core support coming to Leigh, ie several hundred
Now for this to succeed, you then need a large amount of new potential Leigh fans in attendance as well, a free ticket initiative delivered by community work with pre match activities as a must, you control it via precise ticketing details, ie, no entry after 1 hour before kick off, no entry unless a family group, no tranfers from the particular stand in use, no alcohol sales in the stand in use, you want at least a 1,000
So around 4,000 in attendance, 2000+ regular home fans, 500+ away fans, 1000+families
The result, an exciting atmospheric event, hopefully resulting in many of the new ' viewers' interested in coming back

| The solution to that is buy a season ticket and enjoy the same benefits elsewhere. In fact I'm very surprised this hasn't been raised before considering for several years season ticket holding kids at away clubs get free admission whereas any other kids would have to pay. Let's take it for what it is worth in that only a small percentage of the crowd will be benefiting from the reduced price, but let's hope that even those small number of people may not have been coming otherwise and it bumps the gate up.

A small number of new fans will not provide the required enviroment to entice people back, just bumping up the attendance for the sake of bumping up the attendance is pointless
Anyway Matt, explain to Saley why you go watching Hibs?

| Well sorry mate but if you wanted to go somewhere on the spur of the moment I doubt wether it was £16 or £18 would make much difference or less if you are my age.
I have read all of your posts on this and when I am in Leigh I always encourage lapsed Hilton Park fans to come.
They won't because they would have to walk for 10 or 15 minutes. Then I mention the free bus just outside the Goose. Then I mention 2 hours at a game would same them money. After the game I am asked what the score was.
They are not lapsed fans they aren't fans anymore. They would not come if it was free truth to tell.
Lets try new ideas and if they do not work then scrap them. We have to try. We do the same we stay the same.

Thank you Frank.
This initiative is aimed at getting more people through the turnstile and, therefore more money into the club. If it helps to get nearer to the magic average of 2,500 then great. But the club has many other issues to deal with, before we can dream of a S/L place!
Of course it's not a long-term supporter-base-building solution. There have to be other initiatives, aimed at getting Leigh folk into the stadium. I believe initiatives are being planned to get the youngsters in. The Junior Centurions has been formed, there is a very low-priced junior season ticket, there are plans to get schools involved on match days and, perhaps most important, there will be plans to get a significant presence in the Leigh schools.
As for the pricing, there is no intention to alienate home fans. The reduced price offer to visiting and 'neutral' s/t holders is an attempt to get some people in now, (short-term, yes) who wouldn't normally attend. Let's face it, how many would some of our visiting teams bring?

| The presence in schools could be addressed in part by allocating schools to the Scholarship lads and asking them to give coaching advice to the pupils, I say scholarship lads as they are effectively the only 'full time' players, this could give them various skills in dealing with younger people and presentation skills, there are simple lesson plans at the club that could be followed. If any grant money is available then a couple of first team players could be employed on a part time basis to oversee the project. I would be happy to be an administrator on the project as a volunteer.

A ' presence ' in schools is pointless if it isn't followed up properly Fred , I've told this one a million times , it is only the ' sell ' it isn't the ' closing ' of the deal , that has to come from the club
