I remember the 1986-87 game v Wigan when 12500 packed Hilton Park. OK, we lost 35 or 36-0, but it sticks in my mind as I have never seen HP so full!!

It really seems hard to believe 31000 people in the stadium in the 50s !!

The idea that RL was on its knees in the pre super league era is an absolute myth promoted by sky. The Great Britain v Australia 1992 world cup final at Wembley attracted a crowd of over 70000. Also a number of world club challenge finals at that time i.e Widnes v Canberra at Old Trafford 1989, and Wigan v Manley at Central Park early 1990's i think, attracted crowds that todays matches can't match.

Yes Ian we did -but the South Stand (standing) was over subscribed - it was a little too packed for my liking - felt like cattle class for the duration of the game - until all them Wigooners left early (as is the norm)

this is what happens when you let other people get the tickets, you just can't rely on anybody these days

With the east stand well occupied

Bottom line is , nobody is interested in paying to watch England batter the Welsh , only to then get battered by the Aussies

John my friend , the more that come through the gates , then the bigger the crowd, this is a fact

though we may all think the same , to me England are not as strong as last nights big two , it will all appear to be good but i think we are not ready for this .
