I agree with you entirely peawap. Eddie Waring also commetated for It's a Knockout and he treated RL with the same reverence. He made it out to be a joke game, played by idiots. Maybe most people on here are too young to rememebr him, but he set back RL even more than Richard Lewis has....and that's saying something

He not only loved the game but also managed Dewsbury during the war years. He put a lot in to bring the game to the notice of others and but for him i doubt it would have been on the BBC. I wont be watching it but I will tape it for later in the week.

I saw it, and Eddie Waring did more than anybody else to promote the game in the early years of TV. He also managed Dewsbury and Leeds with quite a measure of success, so for someone to say he was a joke is naive to say the least. OK, he promoted himself as well, which didn't do him any good, but he was steeped in the game. And I'd love for Peawapp to try and do a commentary, because it's NOT easy trying to think on your feet, give an unbiased view, and entertain at the same time. I'm also gonna watch the classic final, and the film after.

What a cracking final the Leeds v Saints match was.
Tough players and a lot of skill onshow.

In fact I'd happily lose some of the speed in the game today to get back some of the skill we are sometimes missing.

WHAT A SUPER FINAL THE 78 GAME WAS, that was the year i started watching my beloved leigh, not watched the eddie waring doc yet, but have sky+ so will watch it later, excellent.

Over 3 hours of RL on BBC and still people complain! Love him or hate him, the documentary on Waring was excellent - a wonderful tale of rugby league history. How can you say that EW did not love the game? He devoted most of his life to it and he was always miles better than Ray French (discuss!).

I'm, glad that most of you enjoyed it Gullible people that you are, i of course refused to have it on my telly,when they show the documentary " another bloody sunday" the one from the seventies about Doncasters long losing run which the finally ended by disposing of piggy Fletchers Huyton I shall be an avid watcher, now that's what you call a documentary

If people had watched the documentary it was said on there that Wareing was either hated or loved, personally I couldnt stand his commentaries, but after watching the documentary now know why they were so bad, and the game after just about summed it up his commentary on it was appalling, but it seems as though that was the start of his dementia problems.
We have a similiar scenario with Robbie Paul he gets us more TV time than we have ever got yet some can't see past his on the field time, even though he has only just recovered from major surgery and has been carrying a wrist injury for months.
So what if Peawap didnt watch the documentary and slagged Eddie Wareing off, thats life and Peawaps entitled to his opinion just like us all.
And yes I enjoyed the documentary, the game, the second documentary and the film.
EW may have been a 'joke' to some but since he went we get sod all mention on terrestial TV.

I'm just wondering about the K9 episode if it were to be repeated today what a laugh it would be watching your Stewards telling it not to bark or not to stand where there is any orange paint or "it's not me it's me boss" now that would be something worth watching,

I thought the documentary on EW was very good. I didn't know too much about him but now I do. Havn't watched the second documentary yet but I enjoyed the final. Very, very tough players with a large amount of skill, very enjoyable. I fell asleep watching This Sporting Life but I intend to watch it all another time.

I thought the doc about Eddie W was excellent a true visionary of RL and did hell of a lot
to promote RL in his time with the BBC watching the final 10 mins or so was very sad
it made a lot of sense re Eddies last year commentating on the beeb......
Love him or hate him Eddie W was a true legend of RL and deserves respect from everyone for his achievments in the game, without Eddies involvment in game shows ect ect RL would never have had so much exposure in the media... Top Man. Like it said at the end when he went to his final game at Headingley with his son and was spotted by the crowd who all stood up and gave him a massive applause which brought him to tears....


My fav saying of Eddie was when Leigh played in the 71 final and he said the scoreboard
is all lite up with eeeeeeeelecric lights
