| How about something like the Best, Law and Charlton statue at OT, it could acknowledge the best of their generation,
From Wagstaff through to Edwards it would be more expensive but I think a fitting tribute.

I like the idea, but Wagstaff would have already finished playing by the time the CC went to Wembley!!
How about this - reproduced as a life-size bronze??

We can't have Edwards, he's been a major influence in Union since he stopped playing. It's got to be someone that epitomises rugby league.
I'd go with AJ or Eddie Waring but I'm sure they'll think of some no mark that none of us want lol

Probably Sculthorpe or Sinfield knowing the halfwits at the RFL instead of someone from the real past

But IF a statue dedicated to anything in RL it should be as the sport as a whole not one club or individual.'"
Well in my opinion, I'd prefer Des in my team before Billy. Billy played against much lighter players and his 'crash tackling' wasn't as spectacular as Dessie's! Des was also faster Offiah is perhaps the best winger in my opinion.

Well I saw many Dessie specials so Offiahs efforts are not that special to me. Offiah could not tackle or pass.

| Offiah's only asset was raw pace with an extra gear. He scored some eye catching tries but also let in plenty due to an acute fear of getting hurt.

| I would much rather watch Dessie than either Boston or Offiah however, Boston and Offiah were more prolific try scorers! Dessie also never scored a try against Australia and, Leigh beat Keighley 92-2 in 1986 and Des didn't score a single try A legend though all the same

Offiah and Boston were both better than Dessie, they were in better teams but they made the team better also, Robinson was better than Dessie also, but thats just through my tinted specs.
Edwards did more than Murph at Wembley, remember him fracturing his cheekbone v Wire and went on rest of the game to play a blinder, also him and Offiah took London there. Londons pack was knackered and Edwards started taking drives in.
Edwards every day of the week for me but Lance Todd would be good as the MOM is named after him there seems apt.

| I can't believe I've seen a post that suggests Des Drummond was better than Martin Offiah.
Shaun Edwards or Ellery Hanley IMO.

Hi, Stupid here! I didn't say that statistically Des was better than Offiah I just said 'I' prefered to watch Des! Incidently, Des scored one of the best try's I've ever seen against wi@@an at Central Park!

| outside of leigh there would be very few people who would nominate des drummond in any sort of 'best of' compilation. he was ok but nothing special. it probably says more about the leigh club that the likes of des and john woods are held in such high esteem whereas at other more successful clubs they would be seen as no more than half decent. i've been watching the game for 30+ years (and i know there are people who've been watching the game a lot longer) but even in my time of watching the game dessie was not a 'stand out' player. offiah on the other hand is far and away the most special winger of his generation. with regards to comparing players of different eras, it's impossible as the game is constantly evolving and suits different size/style of players at different times

I can only assume this is a wind up on a quiet night.
The views of the Leigh fans are based on the exceptional performances we witnessed.
If you talk to any genuine wire or northern fans they will tell you the same.
Offiah was a class act great hands and rapid pace plus he had the benefit of starting with another class leyther Darren Wright.
I did see Dessie chase Offiah down and give him a clatteringe.Dessie only came to the game late really makes his achievment even better.
Woody.No comment needed.
