| saints, wigan & a few others have broke the salery cap for years, the problem is they know how to & we dont. saints have broke the salary cap
from year 1, here is the ruling, (give or take a few points) if you brake the salary cap, but only by Xamount of ££, you only get a fine
(the following year), alla saints & other sl clubs, if you brake it by more ££ (you get a point deduction) alla wigan

Not any more , it is now a ' live ' cap , you state what you will be paying every month , if that is too much they can hit you with fines and penalty points there and then
That is why we have asked for dispensation , if they dont give it to us , we have a problem , however they will be leaving themselves open to legal action

| The obvious solution is that all contracts should become null and void upon relegation.
That is what used to happen with SL contracts (when we had P&R) - players became free agents if a club was relegated, to protect the club from the financial consequences.
If the RFL introduced a similar rule for CC & CC1 then there wouldn't be a problem.

Or as mentioned don't let clubs sign players until season ends.
Or even better treat C & C1 as one competition with P&R and let all member clubs spend money they can afford would be better ruling. Get shut of the cap.

No problem , bring it in 2 years from now then we all know about it and can work with it
But you then have to consider what other problems that will give for clubs , what loopholes might appear and what punishments should be used if they are abused
So have a think on it and come back

Thats going to make it very attractive to good young players to stick with RL and not RU. A player needs security in his contract, thats why they sign three year deals.

| what isn't good for us now, is that teams like saints & wigan
won't want their u21s players being loaned out to us to get 1st team
experience, because champ1 is not good quality experience for them.
no insult ment by this to champ1 teams. but realisticly its true,
the sl u21s games are better quality.

Probably didn't make my point very well - was getting at the fact that it's just another in the long line of inconsistencies that the RFL apply to SL and the CC's. Rules apply in one comp but not in another.

| If Leigh took the RL to court over restrictment of trade and got a half decent legal team the RL would be advised to settle out of court
because they would,nt have a leg to stand on on this issue if they deceided to fight it they would end up with a massive legal bill and still lose imho..........

| Neutral opinion......
Leigh knew the risk of being relegated at the time they were negotiating the contracts with Paul, Bibey etc
Leigh also knew the salary cap for CC1 at that time should the worst happen.
Having signed the contracts, Leigh obviously now need to fulfil their obligations.
Leigh can either try to meet the salary cap by buying some very cheap players.
OR
Leigh can continue and go over the salary cap.
The RFL should then make the appropriate ruling and dock points and / or impose a fine.
I have no sympathy for Leigh at all and find it arrogant that Leigh should ask for a dispensation thus creating an unlevel playing field in CC1 as a direct result of Leigh taking risks on the hope of staying up.
These were your risks so face the consequences.

| So it is 'Lets penalise an ambitious club'. Actually thats the RFL all over. A club should be allowed to spend what it can afford full stop. The RFL could still monitor clubs based on what they can afford rather than the ridiculous salary cap which inexplicably was voted in by Championship clubs.
This is not to protect clubs from going out of business as the RFL/SL (one and the same) claim, it is designed purely to make the gap even wider and protect the select few from losing their place in the top flight.
Restraint of trade is how I see it, now which chamionship clubs have the bottle and the cash to take the fat nobs on. IMO it would never get to court, so come on Leigh, Widnes, Fax, Barrow et al.

| As I have said many times the RFL dont have a leg to stand on in with this. Its total restriction of trade and the only way a salary cap ever works is if you dont have promotion and relelgation hence you can plan longer than 30 weeks in advance!

No problem with that.
But lets have it right across the board.
Toulouse knew they would break the overseas quota by being in the Championship, the RFL gave them a dispensation - the minute they did that was the minute the RFL left themselves wide open.
Gateshead stayed up playing with a different player quota to Leigh , the minute you do that is the minute you leave yourself wide open as a governing body.
There is no room for the 'good of the game' if its your club/ business that loses finance, sponsors and support just because of it where it happens to play its RL.
For me the cap and quota should be scrapped, I want to see the best players at my club, couldn't give a toss if they are from Leigh or Brisbane.
I would prefer local players but if 'local' means a lower league for my club and my social time /enjoyment , then I'm sorry bring me a team full of Aussies playing for Leigh anyday, if its good for 1 club its good for them all.
