i had a lot of respect for the way the raiders went about their business last season, and the first part of this season, but these signings, coming after acquiring very good players like rooney and catic, are baffling at best and stupid at worst

Heard from a source close to the action at Barrow that Dave Clark was (allegedly) very unhappy about his chairmans interference in team affairs and particularly transfer policy. Heard that (allegedly) a number of recent signings were made against his wishes.
Seems to add up doesn't it?
As soon as Clark is pushed out of the door and an apparent 'yes' man is brought in, Johnston goes berserk on transfer deadline day!

I'd still love to know how they are doing on the salary cap. Barrow fans will no doubt say they are still way under it, but I can't see how. Top players like Catic, Rooney, Bracek, Luisi, Noone, etc. will not come cheap, and neither will the 'Oldham 5', for that matter. I wonder if Barrow are gambling heavily on a GF appearance this season, (and I would have fancied them until Widnes' re-emergence) then a points deduction next season wouldn't matter, as they had alrady ticked a SL application box?

Or is it like CC, in that they are all working for Mr. Johnston, and offereing to play for Barrow 'now and again' when not required to work for him?



As for Allen not joining us, well I'm not terribly disappointed, as I can think of other positions, where we are more exposed.

Funny thing is, had you lot signed any of these players they would be the dogs knackers !! Because Barrow signed them, none of them would get in any sides in the Championship. Makes me laugh !

But that's because we're in a poor position in the league and one or two signings could be make all the difference in staying up. We're not a side challenging for the top of the tree, having already appeared in a cup final and proclaiming to do things 'the right way', only for the chairman to have a brainfart and go on an unneccesary spending spree that could cost you dearly in both the short and long term.

Barrow go sh*t or bust to reach GF, they don't Sh*t! What happens next season?
Poor coach Deakin and he's another import ie Not from Barrow, have they tried this before? Paying lads from Lancs/Yorks big money p*ssing the local players off and utimately the fans as no local lads get a game!

Its all about next season unless you win get to the GF and hopefully from Leighs point of view that will be Widnes for one as then they will already have ticked as many boxes as possible so that we can tick away happily next season with our super team

Well lets look at it like this. You can only play 13 players at a time no matter how many players you've signed today. Desperation? Panic? You'd think it was Barrow trying to avoid relegation not us.

been told today deakin and barrow chairman are very good friends so deakin could just be a yes man and they are going all out this season so they could end up doing a widnes and going tits up next season

Why? Even with the recent bad run of results Barrow are still 2nd in the table. What is the reasoning behind signing 4/5 players from a team in a lower position than them in the league below. Perhaps I am missing something and that is why I am not a coach but a fan

Remind me of your current coaches roll of honour ? Im not saying Deakin is the right man for the job (I know nothing about the guy and have not spouted off about his acheivements) BUT as a supporter I will get right behind him, the club and the players and see what happens. Sh*t or Bust ? I don't think so. Des Johnston is here for the long run so get used to not being at the top end of the league

You wish !! Not going to happen. No players at Barrow are on Big money LONG TERM contracts. Tha majority of the squad are playing for their contracts next season so I don't see your logic in us "doing a Widnes"

5 players dont make a team. At least 3 of them will be a great addition to our team once they gel. James Coyle & Dave Allen are players I have seen before and I am looking forward to seeing them challenge themselves. James will buzz playing with Jamie Rooney and I think it will only make him a better player.

Everyone seems tobe puzzled as to why the coach stepped down and why we have signed 5 players before transfer deadline.

The only people not at all surprised are the Barrow fans who have watched the squad dwindle down to a bare 17/18 and seen performances gradually decline for the last 2 months.

We watch Barrow week after week and what happened in the last week is EXACTLY what was required to maintain our challenge toward the top of the league.

The 5 players signed today gives us real quality strength in depth for the first team in many weeks.

There's no way the club will EVER go to the wall. We have a good fan base, very little debt and we own a stadium and land worth approx £5M.

I just think it's a shame that some people on this forum are wishing we go bust. I thought RL fans were better than that.

I for one do not want you to go bust and only wish you well and i think most Leigh fans will think the same or i hope they do, good luck for the rest of the season apart from saturday
