Most clubs use email. If you have the persons consent to begin with, then there is no problem with trust and why wouldn't people want to know about the towns RL club and "special offers" ?
Anyone can set up a internet shop nowadays. Its not a 5 mins job of course, and it can cost you loads or little depending on how you do it. The most important bit is the encripted secure payment method you use for debit/credit cards. Widnes Vikings for example I suspect didn't cost that much to do but it worked very well when I used it (for our game of course )

I doubt many people would be confident in sending their credit card details via e-mail (I know this as a fact from my own experiences as my Nigerian alter ego).
Don't forget that any online ticketing would have to be in conjunction with the LSV, so you can guarantee that's an E-Bay Shop out of the window.
The system that Widnes have got is actually similar to City's and various others - believe me, it doesn't come cheap.
Judging by the turnstiles on Sunday, the LSV aren't ar$ed about checking whether everyone's season tickets are valid, so I certainly doubt they'd want to get fancy in terms of match tickets.

Sorry matt, I wasn't referring to sending credit card details over email. Nobody should ever do that, no matter how convincing the email may seem. Even following links from emails that request your login details or credit card details you should stay clear of.
The Widnes set up was Paypal if I remember correctly. Its not expensive because I looked into it for LISA a while back.

Still has to have a live link to a ticketing system, server etc. Fair play to Widnes in cutting the costs in some respects by using PayPal, but that's only a fraction of the costs involved.
Think the fact is that a) we have to get used to the fact that we can't cut corners financially as appeared to be the case at HP b) no amount of marketing is going to make people watch a side getting thumped every week, and more so charge them £14-16 for the privelige and c) we need to concentrate on retaining existing fans before even thinking about attracting new ones.

OK clever dick I posted what I thought I remembered (therefore confirming that I did not apply and get a full job description). Just thought it mentioned summat about getting fans to come, old & new. Sorry if I am wrong. Anyway, if you know what wasn't in the advert maybe you can post what WAS in the ad. just to remind us all.

At £350 for a dozen blokes on a wet Monday morning in a box with a couple of butties and a brew thrown it, I'm not suprised.

Initially you don't really need that because we fall way short of selling out 2 stands never mind the stadium. You can sit where you want, and of course stand where you want in the 2 stands. So all you do is allocate a set number to internet sales.
What takes up costs nowadays for most people is software. You can get software free, which is just as good as the ones that cost £100's or even £1000's. Indeed its a pity our tax money is going down a bottomless pit with schools, colleges and local authorites prefering to make Billy Gates & co even richer rather than looking for free and better alternatives - but thats for another discussion
Anyway lets pretend we can sort internet ticketing out - like other progressive clubs seem to be able to do. Do you agree a Marketing or whatever the title may be will benefit ? The only question mark is how much, and will we get value which only time will tell.

Without it being linked to the ticketing system, all kinds of bugs come in to play, not to mention the H&S aspect. Without being linked to the actual software in the Ticket Office, it's a non-starter (and as the LSV don't appear to be ar$ed about checking people's season tickets, I can't see it being likely).
As for marketing - well, it all depends on what the aims of the position are, rather than their title. And as the RFL like to remind clubs, the money is in the corporate side of things.

It does make me chuckle being directed to the ST card only entrance in the North Stand.... Just to be instructed to go through the turnstyles after showing my ST card........I might show another card in another 30+ days and see what the outcome is ....

As I said though , I seriously doubt anybody will take up the position for any sensible length of time because the money is tied into producing results , and getting those results will be virtually impossible
The original poster was asking what had happened and what was the person achieving
The answer is no and nothing at the moment

| So the RFL want to see an improvement on the current situation. Does bringing in player sponsorship count? If so it shouldn't be too hard to show an improvement when you can currently open up their very own "game on" magazine at the Leigh match page and look at our list of player sponsors, then flick through all the other games in our division and not find any other clubs with less sponsored players.
At this stage in the season nobody in their right mind will be phoning up to sponsor a player at the full season rate so anything we bring in now is a bonus, and the main hope would be that if you bring in sponsors now and treat them right you might get to keep a few on for next season as well.
IMHO first we should be offering packages pro-rata to cover the remaining games & throw in a couple of appropriate incentives (tickets, meals etc) if necessary. And if that doesn't get them in, contact all our existing and former sponsors, together with small local businesses that might not normally be able to afford full season-long sponsorship, and sell the sponsorship like a raffle. Every business pays £100 and gets a few program ads guaranteed. But a chosen few (ie however many are left unsponsored) will be selected for free player sponsorship for the remaining games. Let's face it, if we make even just a few £100's would be better than receiving nothing and letting the sponsorships sit empty for the rest of the season.

Understandaly so, and I'm glad to hear the club are still working on this side of the business, it just depresses me when I see the number of gaps in our sponsorship column of the program. I appreciate Dave & Annette will also have many other jobs to do at the club as well, so don't think I'm having a go at them specifically, it's more an example of something that someone in a "new position" funded by the RFL could maybe assist with.
The point I was trying to make is that with a RFL-funded "new person" on board it shouldn't be too difficult to find a metric through which we could demonstrate "improvement" to the RFL to justify the new position they would be funding.
