| Remember it well. The rain washed away our hopes of getting to Wembley.
We all believed that 'this was going to be the year'.
Many sorrows were drowned after the match.

Same as '71. The team at the time reached a 'high-water mark'........Murph moved on, and tempted players away!!

Murphy was a master of getting the best out of honest hard working players.
Whilst we had a great backline of Drummond, Woods, Donlan, Fox, and a nowty little bugger called Kenny Green at scrum half, the forwards were simply a pack of hard local blokes who would run and run all day for him.
Collectivly there wasnt a better pack in the division, but individually (whilst Cook, Tabern, Potter were quality players) they were not world beaters.
Once Murphy left the momentum was lost, folk left or retired in the following years and within a a few years we were in the 2nd division.

| Quote ="soldiers field"another memory from that game was the late geoff clarkson scored a rare try that day.
he was my favourite player from as a young lad'"
He was tackled by about 6 HKR forwards, maybe 20 feet from the line, reached an arm out, and plonked the ball down on the line.
Ok Ok, it might have been 10 feet out with 5 defenders, but you get the drift.

| one final memory from me for 82.
the day of the whitehaven decider was a thurs and my sister was at school and there was no way she would miss that match.
at about 11:30 she put her hand up to inform the teacher about an imaginary docs appointment and she would have to leave.
within a minute 20 other kids had done something similiar and a class of 30 became 10.
she became part of the 6000 strong convoy heading to cumbria.
finest rugby day of my life.
have you got that dvd fred?

| Fred, do you know who bought Telvista's library when they went belly up? They covered every 82 tour match and lots of matches around 81 to about 84 when they went under? Telvista were a Yorkshire company based close to Yorkshire TV.

Funny thing is, the crowd was officially announced as a little over 5000!!
The Cas CC game was a huge dissappointment. The elements prevented Leigh from going to Wembley that year, and 12000 pyssed wet souls went home absolutely gutted.
There was some fine sides then, and some traditional clubs like Cas and Barrow, was two of them!!

| Televista was owned by a guy called Whitford he was the co-founder of Sheffield Eagles (remember them Charlie ), when Televista went belly up in 1984 they were taken over by The Sports Technology Group, which dd lots of business with different sports (RL include) on video stats and the like, but I cant find any more reference to them after 1999, it would appear they also went 'west' and the 'trace' would appear to stop thier but I will continue digging.
