Salford have called off Swinton game and re-scheduled it for the following Sunday (17th - 3pm) There is simply no chance of the Willows ground being fit for this Sunday bearing in mind the mess today and the forecast for the rest of the week so they have decided early. The LSV have informed all parties "No fixtures this weekend" They have had the under soil heating switched on for the two attempts at playing Salford at great expense, but having taken the decision that they wont be doing it for this weekend. No chance of the Salford game therefore being played this Sunday.
That particular game is therefore dead and buried.

Its the worst snow, I've ever seen been out and measured it at just over 10 inches on the top of the bin!! The car won't move, no buses are running and all the schools in Salford are closed. On the plus side I've got a day off work which so far I've spent making an 8ft snowman

I’m not really expecting any further official comment, the ‘rumour’ about this weekend started on the Salford board.

The way I’ve read our official statement the Salford games best forgotten, and move on to the next.

We're actually in the back end of the last ice age. I don't doubt we're accelerating it a bit, but the next one isn't due for about another 12000 years. By that time I would hope we've got the Salford game played.

The text message that the Salford Reds club sent out this morning tell fans that tonight was off said that the game would be re-arranged (hopefully this weekend).

They have just emailed out the following message, which seems to suggest they are still keen to get the game played;

It's cost the LSV upwards of £15K so far to try and get this game on, and they are reluctant to spend more apparently, for the return they would get it can't be cost effective, IM for one was keen for the game to go ahead but???

Call it what you want, and feel free to show me where Leigh have stated anything about this weekend or indeed that it'll even be re-arranged, Leighs official communication says about getting your money back or exchanging it for the Wire game, etc.

The first post I saw mention it was on the Salford board, that may or may not have been as the result of a text from SCR's, did they send texts about a new stadium?

They haven't, that was kinda my point - Salford still seem hopeful that the game will go away, Leigh seem to have written it off. Can understand both points of view, just doesn't make it any easier as fans to guess whether we'll even get to see this game or not?!


NO, but they did text me photo of John Wilkinson in a high-vis jacket and hard hat, holding a shovel, so it must be nearly complete.

From Leigh's point of view after this weekend (which LSV appear to have written off) I think we already have weekend fixtures up until the start of the season, can't see any reason why we'd want to play two games in a week pre-season.

Hang on a minute, Peter! The way I understand it, is that we are going to use the Salford programme, with an insert in it, for the Warrington game. Otherwise the Club would be getting off to a bad start, with a write-off of the Salford programme. I think we would have all liked a full '52 pager' for Warrington, (especially those of us who had written several articles!) but the Club appear to be taking an eminently sensible viewpoint on this.
