When was the last time we beat Salford away ?

When I saw the squad I was fearing the worst but hoped the lads just give 100%, looking at the scoreline and catching a bit of the commentary it seems the lads didn't let anyone down.

Lets hope this doesn't raise expectations to crazy levels - it was a fantastic win but its only pre season and all players will be rusty , equally we are still a club very much in transition on & off the fielld.
Having said all that its definatly one to enjoy (friendly or otherwise - it was a full time set up v a part time set up).

Salford played all their juniors didn't they? That's what'll be trotted out by the mancs when they get on here. Get ready to have your glory taken by non-plussed fans who'll say "it was only a friendly"

I was worried we might take a hammering when I saw they had put out their full strength team. Especially as we have some of our best players missing like Taylor and Littler.

Was a brilliant performance by the lads today. By far the better team and 7 tries to 2 says it all. Great team effort and an enjoyable day out. Thank god the off season is over!!

Well done Leigh, you'ev made this Lion a happy man. Just hope you realise how good you are and that we (the mighty lions) are not as much of a threat as some of you thought. JUst hope we can make it two nil to the Championship tomorrow down at LSV (swinton) tomorrow!

The conclusion I am drawing from this result is that the lads were playing for Rowley and Jukes. Oh, and Salford are crap.

It was a great match and i'm looking forward to your game tomorrow

My highlight was ricky Bibeys pass to Rob Parker who went on a demolition run right through the Salford defence. Paul Rowley was spot on in his interview when he said that they think we are just coming to make up the numbers. Salford were poor today but that is taking nothing away from our lads who were fantastic. If Martin had got to grips with that wind coming from the south west corner it would have read 12 - 42. Pownall has made that jersey his I think on that performace. Maden and Gardener look solid in the centres. We had a rash of tallent in the half backs. McNally looked the business at full back. I have a feeling that our pack may supprise that Championship this year. Young Brierly looks class. The only down side of today was Beswick going off - I hope he is ok - and his silly penalties. Bob was pushing this team around the park today like he had been with us for a couple of seasons. I am very excited now for this season. I was excited before but after today. Whey Hey.
Come On You Leeeeeeeeeeeeigh.

For me Maden is one of the best players in the Championship.

Great performance by your boys today. Can only applaud the passion and desire you shown today. Yes, it was only a friendly but nothing should take away from the way you took us apart today. Bar one or two players that was our 1st team today and the score line flattered us. Your fans were brill today as well, will take a while for the new stadium to feel like home but today felt like an away game with only you lot making any noise. Again, congrats and good luck for the season ahead.

what's the new stadium like ?

Not a fan myself. With such small stands, the sightlines aren't great at all, even from the back row of the terrace, and especially so when considering how good the 'away' end at The Willows used to be!

Hope for Salford's sake that the place starts to feel like home sooner rather than later though.

As another Lion fan, congratulations for turning the Barton Pinks over in their own back yard, talking to a few Pink fans it seems your boys played superb and that was pretty much Salfords first team.

Turning point was at 6-4 to Salford your stand off could have gone under our posts but inexplicably through out a wild pass. After that Salford's handling was shocking. I don't think they could play worse if they tried.

There was a point in the second half where Salford had us on the back foot by spreading the ball wide but inexplicably they kept reverting to trying to go down the middle.

Salford's pack seems on the small side to me. I think you are in for a tough season.

Leigh's pack was impressive especially Bibey and Parker.

For me though I can't believe we have got Ryan Brierley for a full season.

No we had a strong team out and got d!cked, I won't hide behind anything we're a joke and we know we are.

On the plus side Malcolm White seems to be doing alright.

Danny Williams got both tries, Dan Holdsworth kicked both conversions




Not at all mate, we were thoroughly beaten by a better team. No excuses.

Salford fielded their strongest side - only Joel Moon and Stephen Wild (both recovering from injuries) would make the first team if fully fit, with Jordan James & Feka Palae'esina feauring at some point.

None of those four would've made a jot of difference today though. In fact, Littler and Taylor were probably more of a loss to Leigh than Moon/Wild/James/Feka were to Salford.

You deserved your win yesterday. Great team effort from the Leigh players, well done.
