it says in today's League weekly that Swinton are talking to higson with a view to retaining his services ,it also says that Leigh think they have signed martin Aspinwall ,but it isn't accurate and he is still in talks with hull.,but that was in the League weekly so it might have been written by Nosey Parker and therefore be a pack of bloody lies

Swinton chairman said Higson wanted to listen to their offer. I imagine he'll go where the money is.

With Armstrong signed with t'eagles now I think swinton will keep hold of Higson by all means

Players have to consider the money on offer but' they will also take into account likely win bonuses.

I am confident our team next season will be stronger than last.

I rate Higson & would love to see him back here but if he don't want to play for us then feck him he obiviously has no aspirations as a successful (on field ) rugby player

My understanding is that Adam has just had/is about to have a knee clear out. It would be folly for anyone, including us, to sign him until he is able to prove the success of that procedure.

I suspect Martin will still be under contract to Hull until November - that's when most contracts run to.

Here's a couple of hypotheses for you: I wonder if he wants to stop playing full-time RL, (and travelling across the country) to concentrate on the next phase of his working career, after RL, and play 'part-time'? I also wonder whether Hull have made the noises about still being in discussion with him, to ease the disappointment among their fans, at having to let him go?

Yet still no official announcement from the club.

I have heard the same from someone else close to the club.

They announced his signing officially and if they believe he is still our player then surely there is no need for any other announcement.

I think Alans statement further up sounds like a good educated guess.

Apparently they have included a one month cooling off period in which SL clubs can step in. According to McRae they are looking at the clause although they have still not decided whether to offer him a contract.

But if he wants 'part-time' rugby, and an end to travelling to the other side of the country? And why did Hull not offer him a contract within the deadline?

Apologies for resurrecting this one but, if I have it on very good authority that Martin Aspinwall's name is on the list of players to be released, that was supplied by Hull to the RFL, and then circulated by the RFL to all clubs. To my simple mind, that would suggest that Hull do not want to retain him.

The contract with Leigh posted at RLHQ doesn't have a SL clause - if Hull want him they pay us.

The story that I have sort of concocted from it all is that Hull have said he is to be released. Leigh have declared an interest and spoken to Martin. Martin has agreed to come to Leigh and Leigh have put out a statement. Basil has seen this and put the feelers out at Hull and with Martin with a view to him going to Cas before the registration is complete. So Hull are seeing if there is a chance of a bit of a payday from the whole affair. I know business is business but next year I would like us to be drawn against Cas in the CC, knock them out and it be the final straw for Basil at Cas. I'm not vengeful, it's just business. Thats what they say all the time in The Godfather.

At the players night I was told if no club that is unrelegatable comes in for him by the end of October he will be in a Leigh shirt next season.

Think it's 4 weeks Lynda. However, he was definitely on Hull's list of players that were being released at the end of their contracts, which is a peculiar way of saying they want to keep him!
