| Quote ="-VIKINGMAN-"Ultimately this would be a decision for Millward irrespective of his contract. Saying that i dont see how any coach would fancy a stab at the Salford job, they spend to what they can afford and never progress beyond the bottom few. Fair play to Wilkinson he has put his money time and effort in to them with little reward.

Not quite true. If IM decided that an offer from Salford was worth pursuing, then Salford would need to effectively pay us a transfer fee as IM is contracted to us. What we could do if he decided to withold his labour, I'm less certain, but I'm positive that we could stop him if we REALLY wanted to.

Don't be daft. Salford have a ground better than Saints, Wakey and Cas. When they moved up they were head and shoulders above any team in the NL's. Not telling the truth about their new ground is a completely different matter that some people think is a reason for them not to be in SL. They made a mistake with their current coach but that can be rectified. Salford won't go for Millward as he would want a clear out of all the coaching staff and that would cost bundles. I still say they made a huge mistake sacking Carl Harrison. They should have backed him and give him a bit more time. If Millward did go to Salford I would have Harrison at Leigh. No nonsense coach and can motivate young and old players alike.

| why o why would IM want to go to salford when in 2011 they could be in the same league as us no matter where they finish in the super league with dwindling crowds and no new stadium.I would hope that when AT signed ian on a three year deal he would not want a repeat of what happened first time around and he goes off to another club,so i prey there is no clause in said contract.although i dont comment on here very often i read with great interest everyones comments and banter everyday new zealand time while you guys are in bed dreaming about the next game.good luck to east tomorrow and to the centurions on sunday.

| pure speculation is all this talk, i have no doubt ian wants another crack at sl, but i am also certain he'd want it with a club who stood a chance of winning something, salford do not fall into that category.

| What is there to stop Kear doing the job part-time? It's not like there is an extensive international programme to negotiate. England only play 5/6 times a year in total!!

There should be more to the job than that though "if we want to beat the Aussies". How many times does the words "if we want to beat the Aussies" get used in a sentence by RL fans? Maybe if we treated them with attitude of shrugging the shoulders we wouldn't have the pressure and beat them.

| Salford desperately wanted Basil but he signed for AT, he is on good money and a nice house.
Can see Basil giving this one a wide berth, but if Saints/Leeds/Hull etc came in then .........

| We'll have to handle this kind of rumour constantly especially if we're doing well as Ian will always be linked with every high profile SL job while he's with us.
He chose us for personal reasons as well as the fact that our chairman is a great friend of his and I'm sure he'd love to lead us into the promised land if at all possible.

| Agree entirely with the last post. I support Leigh RLFC and for a few seasons it has been hard work.
The difference is there for all to see already and it is very early doors.
When AT persuaded him to come I was delighted but it has always been at the back of my mind that he might move on sooner than we fans hope.
I had rather this thread had not been started because it has brought something to the fore which I would prefer not to think about.
Up to the fans as well as the players now to make sure he wants to get us back to where I would like to see us.
Had we not got franchising (yeh here I go again) I'd be a little more confident.
Crowds this season have in the main been poor and OK it maybe the weather but with respect to those crowds I think this professional game is rapidly approaching the crossroad.

| Millward was offered the Salford job (when we were in a better position than we are now) and turned it down.
I'm pretty sure that when he came back to the UK he said he wanted to coach back in SL and, if Leigh don't get there next year I think he'll move on.
However, I think you'll have him for a year or two at least.
FWIW, as much as I like Basil and am glad he seems to be turning Leigh around, I actually wouldn't want to see him at the helm at The Willows.
Basil to stay at Leigh, Kear to stay at Wakey, McRae for England, Purtill for Salford.

| As for Basil leaving for Salford, 3022 people watched their SL game on Friday night thats just over 750 people more than we attracted on a Thursday night live on Sky against Barrow. Ian has the full backing of the chairman and basically runs the club. Why would he give all that up to try and turn Salford around with no money? Now if it was Hull FC or Bradford Bulls knocking that would be different but Salford do me a favour!

Sorry boys, perhaps I didn't make myself clear.
I don't want McRae to get the England job, nor do I think he deserves it.
However, he wants it and we want rid of him, so it's a price I'm willing to pay!
(the alternative is we'll swap him for Millward and you get stuck with him?!)

| Is 'Bomber' really as bad a coach as everyone makes out - or is his position at Salford 'ham-strung' by Steve Simms??
He won back to back Challenge Cups, and the inaugural SL title with Saints, and went on to have a very successful season with Gateshead - before they got shafted!!
When he went to Aus, I think he was unlucky to take over at a Rabbitoahs side that were in a state of flux - both on and off the field!!
I know the 'new boy' at W*gan thinks very highly of him!!
