It'll be the first time but i agree with scooter nick,its time to form a new vibrant PPA, lead by much younger players who understand the the problems that some rl clubs are go through these days. That doesn't mean the older generations should be forgotten,it just means that they are part of the PPA and not the leaders of it.

I agree that it was and still should be the main issue but a new bandwagon has started which suggests that a new PPA consisting of recent past players, who by comparison hardly come under the accolade of legend, will make the issue go away.
It would be a quick fix but would be disrespectful.

Well I have been watching Leigh since 1956.

I have posted before what has caused this problem ? Will someone PLEASE post what the PPA want and why they (or maybe 1 of them) thought that a one sided interview to Leigh Journal would resolve this impasse.

Then' I can make my own mind up.That report in the Journal did not tell me and I would like to know as maybe others would too.

This thread has people defending the club and others defending the PPA's stance.

How long before someone posts the real reason for this unfortunate situation ?

No ' bandwagon ' on my part, but the longer the current PPA refuse to sit down, the more chance that a new one will surface, given the attention it has recieved recently, there will only be one more offer, I would guess

And I didnt realise it was the ' past legends association '?

Maybe a Lancashire Cup, or two, but didn't he get 'capped' by GB? It could be argued that not many of the 'recent past' players achieved that.

EVERYONE who has played for Leigh, recently or further back, is a Past Player. Ideally, we need them ALL back in the PPA.

I never saw Charlie Pawsey play , but my Dad told me what a Great player he was , thats good enough for me , its not about winning trophys,its about past players , i applaud any player who has played for Leigh







not only have they acheived one of my dreams , but they have represented our great Club ,and done their best for us ,WELL DONE to all these lads .

Any past player should be welcome to join a PPA regardless of how many trophies they won or appearances they made, but they need to be prepared to pay their way to some extent and certainly not abuse the discounts offered to them as has appeared to be the case in the past.

I respect them all reffy (I hope I haven't shown them any disrespect in my posts on this issue) - 'past past' and 'present past'. That's why I believe we should have them all (or as many as possible) at our games. I'm not interested in what has caused the problem, rather what can be done to resolve it - and I believe that talking would be the start of that process.

Matthew you know me i make fun of most things , but on a Serious point here , i dont think any Past Player would Abuse his Position or said Discounts offered to him ,unless im missing something?

It was mentioned earlier in the thread that the discounts offered to PPA members at Hilton Park had occasionally been abused, with the passes being given to non-members etc.

By that i assume you mean passes given to non players

, because for me if you have played for Leigh , you should automatically become a Member of the PPA .

Yes that's what I meant. Not sure whether automatic membership would work necessarily as they need to know who their active members would be, but of course that would be an issue for the current PPA or any potential new one.

if i wasnt going to a match , i wouldnt give my season ticket to somebody else ,but if i had bought a ticket and couldnt go to the match , then i would give it to someone to use ,not throw it away .

Don't get me wrong, if I couldn't make a game and someone wanted to borrow my ticket then they can do so by all means. But that would be a full price ticket, something which the PPA tickets wouldn't be and that therefore makes it a completely different situation IMHO.

So you are saying that any former player should be allowed to just walk into your stadium essentially free of charge ? , and the stewards ' police ' this how ?

A PPA pass was relevant to the person who paid for it , it wasn't/isn't a general ticket , unfortunatley some tried to use them that way , both to fellow players and non players

,not being privy to RFL or Club rules i cant make a comment on this , what i said was to me "All ex-players should automatically become Members of the PPA ",I have asked in the past if all ex-players are given tickets or have to pay for them ?As i dont know .

For me ex-players are like Old Soldiers , they never die just Fade away , to me Mick Martyn and Gordon Lewis were my childhood heroes ,not one season wonders , but Leythers through aand through ,lets not show them Disrespect .

But how many actually 'support' the club after finishing playing? How many come to watch regularly?

For me, they chose to play for us, they were paid for doing so - thanks for the entertainment that I paid to watch -end of.

If they choose to set up an association then let them but they must meet the costs.

If they are happy to pay the membership fee , then fine

Not showing disrespect , just pointing out the facts of life , at Hilton Park , the club allowed Leigh past players a very cheap ' pass ' to enter the ground , providing they signed up and paid , each pass was player specific , some took the ' Micheal ' and gave them to others , this caused problems , especially for the stewards , when confronted with a group of people , some ex players , some non players with these passes all asking to be allowed to enter the ground

Move along a few years and everything has changed , the club no longer has full control of who enters the stadium or specific parts of it , the PPA have to realise this , if they dont , then they wont be watching Leigh
