Well I went always do.

The number of my mates who didn't go told me why. I knew why before they told me.

Had I been asked about the unnecessary partnership announcement (as it is purely to ensure we have DC options as per last season apart from the fact that it can only be from one club)) and this ridiculous double header pricing system I could have told them.

We have fans forums LISA meetings don't tell me the folk who go to them
don't know it too.

Someone made these 2 crazy decisions without consulting LISA/Touchdown club members never mind using common sense. I have no idea why.

I know it's not relevant, but looking at the Oxford RLFC site, they are charging £20 adult bus fare to the Shay which includes a ticket into the game. £10 for children. Wish all clubs could bring offers to the fans like this.

It was always going to be a poor attendance today as the season has shown people (for whatever reason) are losing interest / patience in Leigh (and dare I say it in RL in general).
The sport doesn't seem to be getting it right and is feeling the pinch and with respect I have concerns that our board honestly have the ideas needed for what the remaining Leigh fans and the Leigh public that could still be won over want to see (and what they are willing to pay).
We have had a number of 'own goals' by (and lets be totally honest here) a well meaning board trialing things out, its just unfortunate that the decisions made are going to speed up the clubs problems and these 'own goals' have to stop now as otherwise it moves from honest errors to incompetence.

Lets hope the RFL review the Challenge Cup (along with the entire structure of Pro / Semi Pro RL in Britain) before next season so the really low attendances can be stopped before it becomes serious.
I think it was Frank who said some time ago (perhaps in jest) that this cup game should have been played at Leigh East, in all honesty it could have been, and that should have alarm bells blaring out for anyone with a passing interest in our club.

The board has to step up, become flexible and really double the efforts (and yes I know they are working for nothing and doing there best), its regretable though that more is needed for our club just to stand still - let alone improve.

I hope we can progress through the rounds of the CC and next week are handed a home tie to build up support (and maybe as last season get the chance of a big name at home after that), we need some luck there is no doubt but equally our club needs to really pull the stops out, if that means more fan involvement then it HAS to happen.

A shocking gate was no surprise, the rot has to stop now.

Nothing to do with interest or patience IMO. Purely down to a CC game against amateur opposition along with finance issues, this being our 4th game at the LSV in 2 weeks. Oh yes and people failing to understand press releases and interviews with the coach.

Reffy , i stand by my post in every way , it WAS a dismal attendance , i agree maybe the opposition wasnt the best , but you only play who the Draw gives you , and i thought E Leeds tried very hard .Our BOD are trying everything they can to increase revenue ,they have reduced prices in Legends Bar , and in the Bars below the Stand this season , have tried different Match days ,i dont know the exact reason for the Double Header , but it Definately wasnt to Rip fans off , if you speak to Keith Freer or Trevor B , they will listen to any ideas or complaints , everything is Transparent , no hidden Agendas , they want the same as we do a successful Leigh Centurions .

As for myself , i dont think im going over the top , in Defence of the Clubs decision , i also agree its everyones right to attend whatever matches they want to see , but you dont Whinge as you put it , next season when the Budget for players is reduced , because of lower crowds , which could mean the Quality of players on the pitch being reduced .Paul R , and the BOD have done IMO a good job assembling a Squad IMO able the challenge the top teams in our Division .

I also think we do have a couple of "Neros ", on this Forum , but as they dont attend games it doesnt matter , we DONT miss them .

A bit deep for this forum that Charlie , But some could aim that analogy back at the BOD as being " Neros " as in " Fiddling while Leigh burned " . It's alright being transparent and listening to complaints like the Sheffield Friday night game , the Wigan partnership and now the " Double Header " rip off it's the not acting on them that concerns many , I thought the plan was to attract fans not to peeve the ones we've got .

He put in a good 80 minute performance yesterday & is a pretty big lad for a 20 year old. Going off that display I think we could be seeing more of him next season

Perhaps it was the LSV who wanted it done that way. At the very least I think that all three (Leigh, Swinton and the LSV) must have been involved in the discussion.

I quite honestly have my suspicions that the LSV, although obviously having to discuss with Leigh, Swinton, and the RFL, had the final say on the failed 'double header'.
I would assume that they decided to save costs i.e Security, opening the stadium for two seperate days, having to pay out double expenses, etc, etc, that it would be easier to forfeit vital revenue to the Centurions, as they obviously felt that there may be some mileage in a 'double header' to suit the LSV themselves.
Double headers are never going to work if you only set one fixed price. Why on earth did they not charge twelve pounds per game, and eighteen for both games, then the very fickle Leigh fans may have thought they would be getting a bargain purchasing a ticket for both games IF they wanted, yet saving a reasonable sum if they only wanted to watch Leigh.

Then why don't they announce it as such ?

Why would we want to broadcast the Swinton game? If you're hinting that Swinton wouldn't allow us to then they had no say yesterday and if we had wanted to (or could be bothered to) then we could have.

Seems to me that this is the 3rd game at the LSV where Swinetown are concerned that " Radio Grandad " haven't broadcasted could it be that your not part of the media team and that your freeloading ?

Don't take it as a dig , but what exactly does your plugging into the existing media team broadcast bring to the Leigh Centurions ? , it's nothing so why bother ? .

OK so the double header didn't work out, but have a look at the attendance of today's cup games. 735 at Featherstone, 333 at Sheffield, 10000 at Halifax. Amazingly Leigh Miners was one of the best. Rugby league as a whole is suffering.

The [iLeighLife[/i team are just as much a part of the 'media team' at Leigh Centurions, as Fred & Dave Parkinson. Without [iLeighLife[/i, we wouldn't be able to have a radio broadcast - it's their (i.e. [iLeighLIfe[/i) community radio station. The radio broadcast is intended to put the name/brand of Leigh Centurions 'out there' - to those who can't attend games, to those living abroad, and to the potential advertisers and sponsors that we need.

Needs another round before we play and another round before the top 8 SL teams play.
The games need to look like they will be competitive to attract support.
Listening to Radio Cumbria today (brilliant RL coverage on a sunday btw) and its understanable but saddening that many think the sole aim of the cup is for the clubs to make as much money as possible before concentrating on the league.
Sure I agree a a club should aim to make money but surely the whole point of the cup is to do well and win games otherwise its totally pointless, personally I feel the CC is now at the stage where at least two rounds need adding (if using the 'need to make money' argument for being in the cup I bet East Leeds would have made just as much money away v Rochdale or away v Leigh Miners as they did from yesterday and then if they had progressed the interest generated may have meant a good pay day and increase in the clubs profile), failing that regionalise the earlier rounds so at least local interest might drum up the crowds (if we played Blackbrook or East it would likely have been double the gate we got yesterday).
The gates don't lie, the interest in the competiton is virtually nil as 99% of the results are known before a ball is kicked, its time the governing body and the clubs started to act like they are professional as short term ideas = short term gains, start losing supporters due to lack of interest could mean you lose them for a long time as competiton for their leisure money these days is huge.
