| I do not know why you get so upset with Dico he was obviously overtired when he posted his latest.
Live and let live the lad obviously is overworking and needs a break after his sterling imput on our board.
I think he is a closet Leyther.

Dont let him bother you hes a grade 1 c0ck. Thing is Leigh is a hotbed for RL and the town is being invested in (LSV new large TESCO and so on). If Leigh got into SL surely a large company new to the area could sponsor you. You have the talent which you would be able to hold onto, a nice new stadium, sky money and a loyal fan base. Its more than some SL clubs have now.
In order to be in SL you shouldnt have to win or be in a final to qualify. When was the last time Wakefield, Cas or Quins got to a final? Does that mean they should be kicked out as they have had 3 years to get to 1. Answer is no and the same should apply to the teams in the NL. It should matter more how good the club is doing off the field as on the field can be fixed qucikly off the field cant.'"

| The fact of the matter is until, and it will, SL goes to 18-20 clubs then SL doesn't need a Leigh. If Leigh disappeared tomorrow all their juniors and talent emerging would be picked up by one of a number of local clubs. If Quins disappeared tomorrow you'd lose a whole development network.
Its unfortunate but you're just too small.

| You can make it, if you had a sugar daddy willing to bankroll all the missing elements required to make you a viable SL outfit. There's no reason you cant do what Widnes have done in theory.
But until you have that, you're just a well run small town club with a nice ground.
And anyway, I thought SL was all about the grounds these days

Don't talk wet Richard. When I was in London earlier this year there were a few amature teams (I think they were amature ) all training on a friday night on Clapham Common. This probably happens all over London. They would not go to the wall if Quins went belly up. I think that London should have an SL team but not at all costs. I also think that all our leagues should be named as super leagues with the Championship being SL1 and SL2, literally. With the present SL being known as The Super League. It's called rebranding. It works for all sorts of businesses and our game needs one at the moment and it certainly needs a coming together of the leagues before we see a split. There are now fans who are fans of championship clubs that refuse to watch SL anymore is that good for the game? There is a lot of snobbery amoungst the SL clique but I plead to the more level headed ones to look at the bigger picture. For our game to be a national one we still need the old established clubs. We still need the Workingtons and the Batleys and the Leighs. We also need a Crusaders but what we need most is for this fantastic game to be a familly again.

It would be nice to have a sugar daddy, but I'm not sure I would agree with them 'persuading' someone to retire a year earlier than he had already stated just so they could sign another quota player. Wonder what that cost him. Still you'll all go out and spend a fortune on Monaghan souvenirs (no doubt the return of the nodding dog for the car), just as you all did for Mr Johns who played about 3 games for you. I hear they made a fortune from the Johns shirt sales.

It was a nice novelty but ultimately a waste of time as we crashed and burned in one embarassing playoff game.
In fact the way WWRLFC go about 'business' sometimes these days annoys me deeply

Go to the wall's probably a strong phrase but with Quins the London talent has an 'out'.
You try getting a bunch of 15 year old kids to move all the way up the country on a cold wet winter, odd ones will do it, most will be taken by union, others will earn a living while playing semi pro. You have your opinion, I have mine.
On your second point what we need is to get out of this recession, onto the next TV deal or after and go to a 2 conference 18+ team system where teams like Leigh and Widnes will be valued as with conferences most fixtures will be derby fixtures with great attendances while SL itself spreads. I detailed a plan for this out years ago and cba going over it all again but a SL 1&2 system isnt the way forward imo

Hang on. Are you seriously suggesting Leigh and Widnes somehow go head to head with the likes of Coventry and Bramley in a 2 teir 36 team conference?
If it is then your knowledge of the game outside of your goldfish bowl does not even reach 'ignorant' level.
The last time we played London Skolars, our reserves put 70 past them and our crowd dropped by half.
That's the last thing the game needs.

What on EARTH have you been smoking???
I think you need some caffeine to sober up son because I have absolutely no clue what you're on about or where you somehow bring Coventry or London Skolars into SL.
I'd suggest there's been a board malfunction and youre on the wrong thread or something.

| Right, as there's been a misunderstanding i'll take the sarcastic mode off a second.
If you had SL1&2 they would be divisions.
If you had two leagues running side by side based on locality they would be 'conferences' like in the NFL.
Our conference would be something like Wigan, Saints, Salford, Leigh, Wire, Widnes, Barrow, Crusaders, SWS maybe give or take. Lots of derbys, you play your conference H&A and the other conference once alternating each year. The advantage being 25 games (a cutdown on the current amount) and still having 5 or 6 local home derbies. Top 4 from each division goes into the playoffs to win the SL title.
Magic weekend can be a reworked last 16 of the cup and you could have an East V West almost Origin style exhibition. ..hell even call it Lancs V Yorks to be traditional if you wanted

| See, I'm not one for the Grammar Police but now you have explained it properly I understand fully.
I'm putting the words '18 team system' 'conference' 'Leigh' 'Widnes' together with the 'Conference' as we know it (with a shortage of commas), whilst 'SL spreads itself' and coming up with '@rsehole'.

| No, it would allow us to expand rapidly without increasing the number of games and you could have the typical bottom of the league 'weak team' in each conference and I dont think everyone would bat an eyelid really.
Thing is this isnt viable, imo until 2015 so in 2012 I think they need to rework the Chp into one division again and drop some sides, yes, into a reworked conference

How do you mean small? I think Leigh are serious under achievers but not small. They have 2 of the largest and succesful amatuer clubs in the country, one of the nicest stadiums and huge ammount of local talent and a loyal fan base. If Leigh had a sugar daddy like Wire they would easily overtake you as Wire doesnt have a local talent pool as they have to sign everyone elses. 2 local lads in the usual 17 is very poor.
RL needs clubs like Windes, Leigh, Barrow and so on as they are clubs with tradition and are valuable to their local polulation and help keep RL alove in them areas.
If Warrington went tomorrow and we replaced them with Widnes would anyone care? According to your way of thinking the answer would be no.

Leigh is a town of around 45,000 people. Warrington has nearer 200,000 people. To have two of the leading amateur clubs, and a top-20 pro club, is uterly remarkable for Leyth. But we are small, geographically, and in turnover.
Warrington does have strong amateur network and talent pool - of course - but it also has competing influences from football - not in Warry itself, but along arterial transport links - and indeed from a range of other commercial, cultural and educational draws... Culture (even to the point of accents) follows travel routes. That's why Penkethites sound scouse and Hollins Greeners sound Manc, while people in Leigh (with no arterial transport routes) sound like Lancastrians.... only Warringtonians over 70 still have a Lanky accent as opposed to a Manc/Scouse hybrid. If Leigh had a station and a motorway, chances are it wouldn't have three top RL clubs.

I disagree, they dont have the talent pool, how many players in the top league are from Warrington and how many from Leigh? 2010 season?
For a place with 200k+ their crowds arent so large either considering they are succesful at the moment. Leigh has competing influences from Wigan rugby and Football and also the large neighbouring football cities.

I agree with your conclusion, but you do massively underestimate the importance of Quins to the development structure in London (and Crusaders & Scorpions in Wales). I played London League in the late 1980s - it was largely exiled northerners running and holding together teams, with the central London clubs almost 100% antipodean. It lurched from season to season with little coherence and a huge turnover of clubs lasting a couple of years, then folding and reconsituting.
By the pre-SL days when I started a Basingstoke club, it wasn't much better, with no real attempts from the nomadic London club to tie everything together.
Now, the carrot of Quins offers a real opportunity to talented kids from Y7 up, with a growing perfomance pathway and a strong youth section at performance and club levels. Quins also host some of the community coaches, and (all things considered) work pretty well with Skolars and the RFL teams on the ground to make sure everyone is pulling in the right direction.
Take out Quins and we're not exactly back to the 1980s, but we'd lose 5-10 years at least from the programme.
