MUSH!!!
Alex says he's very sad that the situation has come to this but he's had no dealings with the PPA for a long time and has only heard what we've all heard (through the press). He just hopes that matters can be settled and the PPA will at least agree to sit around the table with the board to sort it out.

| I'm not sure they'd go for that Ste, the fact that the club wanted to charge them £40 a season to go in the big room is what kicked up all the fuss in the first place.

I'm baffled.
PPA who allegedley love the club and want to support it through its current difficulties don't want to pay admission, discounted admission with perks thrown in that is.
IMO we are better without that sort of PPA, start a new one - West seats, access to Bar with food thrown in £100 a season. We all worship these lads for their efforts in the shirt, its fantastic for them to feel special and part of the clubs future - but the clubs genorisity has been abused in the past at HP, so at LSV lets do it right as a partnership

OAP's tickets are £90? give them for £50 ... let them in the bar behind and i think its reasonable. Plus if theres 10 buying its an easy 500 quid in the kitty

| Yeah it's a bit of a minefield eh?
Do we ever have any PPA's from other clubs coming to the LSV?
Did/does our PPA go to other clubs? (before the fall out I mean)
Surely a club can't be expected to pay for all these people?
I honestly don't know how it works, but I'd like to find out.

| was discussing the PPA last night in the pub, and someone made a reasonable comment that i must admit made me think about.
How many of the PPA actually played for leigh? (a question i could not answer)
Is it not for past players who come from leigh regardless of club? (again i could not answer)
As the person who raised this question is under the impression that there are members who never played for leigh?
I hope a solution can be found regarding genuine past players.

| I do know that Leigh Past Players Association is for players who've played for Leigh regardless of where they come from.
I also know that they have at least one member who's never played for Leigh but has dedicated his life to the club and helped them out in many ways in the past.
Hope that helps to answer a couple of your questions.

| It's a long time since a thread subject had 13 pages of comments. I have read them all and most of them have made really good points. I tried to find out about other PP Associations but unfortunately I was only able to establish the situation at Widnes speaking to one of their members. Widnes PP Association is open to all players who have played in the first team. They also have 'associate members' who have been involved with the Club but without pLaying, i.e. long serving Director, Kit man, etc. Widnes PP pay £1,500 to the Club and get 24 season tickets, plus 2 tables in the lounge upstairs (no food) Apparently 80% of active members are OAP.
Leigh PP have been a strong association in the past, but their numbers have fallen. At Hilton Park PP were entitled to apply for a season pass by paying £10 a season (this later became £20) but I undertand this stopped last season.
At the time the long established PP were having their dispute with the £40 charge being made for going into the banqueting suite a few of the 'younger' past players were invited to the Club and used a box from time to time. Jason Donohue was one who attended and he tried to encourage other younger PP to become involved. Jason insists that at that time he was not aware of the existing PP Association. Obviously the existing PPA were hurt when they read that some more recent PP were getting access to upstairs and presumably made their point hence the ill feeling that currently exists.
Trevor Barton has said he would be glad to meet them, whether that invite was in writing to them I'm not sure, but if he gets his Secretary to write officially to the Secretary (Bob Shuttleworth) or their Chairman (Maurice Bailey) then it will come up at their next meeting - presuming they still have them, and hopefully he will get a favourable reply which may well be the beginnig of sorting it.

Thanks for that insight.
Last bit (re TB) sounds promising - hope it is sorted for the good of the club and it's supporters (past and present). It's not just on here that it's been debated in depth but also on Leigh Life:

| I'm sorry, but what else can the club do now?
They've handed out an invite to sit and discuss it, and it has been thrown back in the clubs face.
Time to distance itself from the current PPA, start a new one, offer all current PPA members membership, and start from scratch with a proper, democratic constitution (I'm not suggesting the current one isn't) and see how things pan out.
Things like this are more often than not down to a few members of an organisation stirring things up... To me, the most telling comment to emerge so far is that Sir Alex doesn't appear to be a member of the PPA?
For a dedicated Leyther, that to me is a very telling situation.

The club and Trevor can only do so much, the PPA have to be willing to at least meet for discussions, good on him trying again.

| Donohue [uinsists[/u he didn't know about the PPA, bollix.
The more recent past players were pandered to and offered privileges that the existing PPA had had taken away and because they felt let down they took a particularly , possibly misguided, course of action. They are then slagged of by a majority of the contributors to this forum who have no sense of history and are happy to see a new PPA consisting of players who they can actually remember replacing a body of true Leigh Legends. Pathetic.

I'd suggest it is the refusal to sit down and talk, that is the main issue here

| It'll be the first time but i agree with scooter nick, its time to form a new vibrant PPA, lead by much younger players who understand the the problems that some rl clubs are go through these days. That doesn't mean the older generations should be forgotten,it just means that they are part of the PPA and not the leaders of it.

I agree that it was and still should be the main issue but a new bandwagon has started which suggests that a new PPA consisting of recent past players, who by comparison hardly come under the accolade of legend, will make the issue go away.
It would be a quick fix but would be disrespectful.

| Well I have been watching Leigh since 1956.
I have posted before what has caused this problem ? Will someone PLEASE post what the PPA want and why they (or maybe 1 of them) thought that a one sided interview to Leigh Journal would resolve this impasse.
Then' I can make my own mind up.That report in the Journal did not tell me and I would like to know as maybe others would too.
This thread has people defending the club and others defending the PPA's stance.
How long before someone posts the real reason for this unfortunate situation ?

No ' bandwagon ' on my part, but the longer the current PPA refuse to sit down, the more chance that a new one will surface, given the attention it has recieved recently, there will only be one more offer, I would guess
And I didnt realise it was the ' past legends association '?

Maybe a Lancashire Cup, or two, but didn't he get 'capped' by GB? It could be argued that not many of the 'recent past' players achieved that.
EVERYONE who has played for Leigh, recently or further back, is a Past Player. Ideally, we need them ALL back in the PPA.
