Spoke to him the last home game but he uses all pro equipment of his own as it's his job, we couldn't afford it, plus I would need a couple of Sherpas and a team of donkeys (no puns on this re players please ) to move all the stuff he does, I want to downsize the stuff I carry so It's gotta be quite compact equipment.

Think your first idea is the better one, although, before you go 'large scale', it may be worth trying shorter distances to see if there is any effect on the picture.

| The problem with any of those system mate is that they must have nothing in between the two devices. I will speak to our camera crew at lunch and they will know. We use a Teradeck for short distances but there are devices for greater distances. Not cheap though mate.

| My camera team reckon the Boxx System is the one that you need. This will transmit HD pictures the distance from your position to where PR sits as long as there are no obstacles. Is powered by 12v V Lok batteries and is about £10,000 to buy but most camera rental houses in Manchester will rent them. They will show you how to set it all up if you ask them. It is also very light. Hope that helps. Our camera assistant it finding me a link so I can post it on here.

| thanks for that Tony Im only using a Canon consumer camera and HD isn't needed just an ordinary SD picture is all they need (MPEG2) as their sports tagging and review programme will only accept that, £10K is far too rich for me and I somehow diont think Michael will authorise £10K I don't like going down the rental route TBH but thanks
there is clear line of sight between the two points, we are investigating transmitting through the Stadium LAN if thats a non goer we will probably investigate the cheaper 5.8 Mhz unit they are around £40

| Which camera do you have? Do you have a laptop at the camera end you could use? Capture it there (can you not see the feed directly on the laptop via USB, e.g. no need for video capture?) then have the stream available via stadium or other wifi (use a mifi gadget?) You can use VLC player or Mplayer to broadcast it via wifi. Might need to re-encode it if it is HD so it will 'fit' over wifi.

Did the laptop attached straight via firewire (when cams and laptops had them) and used a programme called LONGOMATCH to do the tagging and playback - great for any amateur football/rugby club for video analysis by the way, but the coaching team are reluctant to come across to the East side and LSV wont let me film from the west (though we did it for a full season a couple of years back ???) a regular box on the half way line is not possible due to them being taken by paying 'punters'.
Also unless one buys a high end prosumer camera modern cams dont direct stream from USB, we are doing it on a tight budget so costs will have to be kept to a minimum so mifi is out, not being negative folks just saying it as it is.
I agree the easiest way round is for the coaching staff to be near the camera but at the end of the day I can't force that issue only advice and come up with alternatives.
Thanks everyone for their comments and tips, having a site meeting today with a couple of possible solutions, if money wasn't an issue the Boxx system looks great, Im sure SKY (Telegenic) use it for the roaming camera on Rugby 'shoots' black box on rear of camera with aerials on it.
Ohh to be rich and have no worries about budgets .

| Pete has suggested a (cheap) way of doing this so if you don't get it sorted today have a chat with him on Saturday.

Thanks Alan - you have saved from me going for Counselling.
Some may think we should share the Counselling appointment.
Also delighted to hear you are not on the BOM either.

| Thanks all, think we (well Chris Platt - thanks Chris) for both home (using LSV LAN) and for away going with a good 5.8Mhz video sender, seems the best solutions for us without breaking the bank, would love to do what Tony suggested but too expensive for my miserly pocket .

I think you misunderstood. Basically you are using the mifi gadget as a router, to provide Wireless Lan to you on the gantry and whoever has a laptop at the other end, so you both connect to the same wireless network. This way you can use it at away games as you are using a battery powered device, you could use a standard router if you have a power socket available, which I assume you do?. MiFi gadgets are cheap as chips on ebay, could probably get one for a tenner! How small is the budget! It does mean you need a laptop at both ends, although you could possibly use something like a Raspberry Pi at your end, cost 25 quid, plug the video capture USB stick into it, depending on if re-encoding is required. I know people have been using Rasp Pi for security cameras so it can be done.

| yes thanks I did get what you wrote we are going to trial several methods and then decide which is best for home then away games it may well be that due to constrictions on most grounds in the Championship a direct wire link will have to be done, again thanks to everyone for suggestions advice and tips.
