| As a rail worker i'd say not much will be decided for a while as rail franchises run out in 2012. Seems that the railways are getting investment both privately and publically for this one though, so i'm reasonably optimistic.

Blimey, it's catching on! Do you have to have a new, state-of-the-art station completed before the franchise deadline, with a percentage of your station staff 'home grown'?

I'm praying to see this happen at some point. Leigh has been crying out for a rail link for so long. As a Uni goer based in Leeds it would be so much simpler to get home by having a train station in Leigh and much cheaper and faster than having to get a combination of trains to manchester and then buses to Leigh. Also getting the train to Manchester/Liverpool for nights out or shopping would be much easier/cheaper/quicker. I know plenty other young people who feel the same!
Similarly, it can only be good for the town as a whole with projects like LSV, the Tesco/Cineworld project and other developments it can only stimulate even more projects and ultimatley more jobs in the town.
From a Leigh Centurions and LSV point of view it would surely be of benefit, as it provides yet more access to the ground for home and away supporters alike.

| The only place that I can think for it to be would be at the end of the bypass or if they tunneled under the lancs it could get as far as Pennington. Both these sites would be good for the town but even better for the LSV. A shuttle bus from the town centre and you will Leigh jump into the 21st century. The muddy little mining town in Lanacashire is on the up.

| To be honest the last station was closed because the people of Leigh didn't use it, on a personal point if that where the station is planned it would be ideal; for me for a trip out to Mancheser or Liverpool, but I ain't holding my breath waiting for it

That would cost a lot more than £55million and would terminate at the arches in Leigh town centre.
Matt to use that tunnel the link would have to cross the bypass in order to terminate at the opposite corner to the fire station.

Is there not another one further down? Only going off what I've been told, not really done much reading in to it as my train journeys are almost exclusively to Scotland and would therefore be just as quick and cheap to get the bus to Bolton/Wigan rather than a train in to Manchester and then possibly switching stations.
