| Just got home.
Let me start with saying well done to Fax for some great RL.
We are suffering because we have 3 or 4 players who sadly aren,t able to compete at this level.
Ian Watson was outstanding for us today and with due respect to the lads who tried we really need a quality stand off.
We looked ok for the first 20 minutes but then a silly penalty given away by Hobson started the inevitable decline.
We definately need Higson back, and Rudd, in my view but with a few changes I think Charlie Caroli will lose his bet.
I still think Fax are beatable though if you keep driving them back with a long kicking game.
Once again we are our own worst enemies.
Promising thing however was Leulai I think we might have a good un here.

| We had 3 or 4 sets in their 20 during the first half, each time we tried a chip to the right hand corner and each time the ball ended up somehwere in Elland, whilst on the other wing we have a points machine who is dangerous from 10 yards out stood wondering if he will touch the ball today.
Then a couple of quick tries from sloppy dicipline or defence late in the 1st half and the heads went down, game over.

Seconded, thought Leuluai looked very promising and will turn out a good player. Can't say the same for Nanyn though, a waste of space I think!
Thought you looked very good in spells today, scoreline does not reflect the game, I fully expect to see you challenging for honours this year.

| Another point on today at the 60 minute mark the fax fans near me could have coached a side against us ...they knew exactly who to target and where the ball was going on our "attacks".....how sad is that????

I don`t think you were watching your " points machine" too closely today were you?
I thought he let your team down big time he wanted nothing to do with the ball today unless he was a yard from the line.If I was Rowley I`d put a rocket up his backside to me it`s arrogance if you have the ability but prefer to stand back and let others do the work. He is probably bideing his time taking it nice and steady till he can go back to Widnes.I hope he is only on loan for you.

You're an idiot. Once again he led us around the field and without him our attack has no backbone at all. We have no stand off to take the pressure off him until Joey comes, if he is, because Ridyard gets targeted in defence constantly and Marsh is too slow and not suited to the stand off role in my opinion.
On todays game, we just got outclassed by the better team with lots of defensive errors from us. At times we stood off and watched them play around us and we fell off far too many 'easy' tackles that should of been made. We looked to shift the ball more but nothing was fruitful as it either resulted in a forward pass or a knock on.
The most frustrating part of today was the way we took glaringly obvious wrong decisions. We kicked on the 2nd/3rd tackle 2/3 times that came to nothing at all and at the play the ball we worked the short side when nothing was on.
I don't think we were ever going to win today, the performance could of been better but we need to continue to build for next year where - hopefully - we will assemble a better squad.

| I'm puzzled - against Featherstone, we tried the short kick-off three/four times, and Nanyn won the ball each time. Today, we tried the same tactic, but away from Nanyn, every time - result, we only won it once. Why the change of tactic?
Not that it would have made a blind bit of difference, of course, as we were comprehensively outclassed, by a cracking good team. Good luck to 'fax - they play the game the way I would love to see us play it.

| Today i did'nt think they played well at all they seemed clueless in attack apart from our 1st try that is which was great but after that it all went pear shaped im afraid and as i have said on another thread i look for positives after the game but today i cant think of one ,Halifax are a very good attacking team and expected them to put a few past us ,they throw the ball about and get the ball away when being tackled they are quick much faster than us but all i wanted was Leigh to turn in a good game but they did'nt and Halifax made us pay big time ,its not the losing is the lack of effort .

Maybe because age isn't on his side and this will probably be is last season. He's been our best player for the last 2/3 matches but all the usual 'suspects' are out crucifying him.

| Worst Leigh teams for years FACT !!!
SLOW..CANT DEFEND...SUPPORT THE MAN WITH THE BALL
TOTALLY LACKING IN IDEAS !!! WHAT A SHOWER RL IN SLOW MOTION
Tactically they where shocking as they have been all season, to turn this
lot round we are going to have to have a major watershed and get shut of around a dozen players who are well of the pace of modern day rugby
I,M NOT NAMING ANYONE but everyone knows who the players are its week in week out they underperform players in key positions are just not good enough and dont get the team moving the backline is very poor the slowest at the club for years the forwards are of a very poor standard not strong enough and fitness wise look very suspect ..
Today only Watson young Leulai and Hill looked anything like decent
Watson tried his very best to move the play about but players where far to slow and at times downright lazy in both defence and attack
Halifax played some great rugby because Leigh allowed them to they are beatable if a team gets stuck in but sadly when a team plays defensivly
like Leigh do it allows teams like Fax to unload in the tackle and keeps them on the front foot going forward..
WHAT A WASTE OF MONEY AGAIN !!!

| Watson can't do it on his own, simple as that. 'Fax won it with their support play, whereas the one break we made was Watson with the nearest Leigh player 15 yards behind him.
Fact is, we just weren't good enough to pose any sort of threat today. We really need this visa sorting because we're desperately needing a foil for Watson.

| Have to admit, Hilly had his least effective game of the season, but he wasn't alone.
We want Jock back instead of the player that's been pretending to be him for the last 5 matches.

| Here's my view on the game;
Firstly, credit to Fax they played some great rugby with good support play, Greenwood especially. We were never going to win if we didn't take our chances.
The basic's of rugby league are passing a ball and making a tackle. We did neither with conviction yesterday, how many forward passes? One on one tackling was a disgrace and it was shocking to watch. We need to get that sorted before anything else!
From the first kick off Halifax dropped the ball and we had a set of six on their line now I don't care if we're playing Featherstone or Halifax if Nanyn runs a good line from a Watson/Ridyard ball from 5 meters odds are he'll score so why weren't we getting him on the ball when on their line? Why didn't we have any willing runners? Our try was simply a player running onto the ball on abit of an angle we didn't see this for the rest of the game.
We had enough 5 or so sets near the Fax line, kicking the ball dead or getting caught with the ball that isn't good enough and need ideas or just some runners will do for now.
In the second half we were deflated and we resorted to poor one man rugby which didn't get us anywhere.
Stewart and Hobson should be nowhere near the team.
I think the difference in mentally is the key, Halifax looked like they wanted to score everytime they had the ball in our half and they believed that they would. We don't have any players who believe they will score or break the line and that's why the rare times we do make a break theres sod all in support. It was a very poor Leigh performance if i'm honest.

| Did any one noticed C Hill at the end of the game, he was clearly gutted and really upset my heart went out to him as he clearly has been a brilliant player for us, if we had a team of Chris Hill s we would be top of the league. I dont think le,ll be with us much longer although I hope Im wrong, then having said that he deserves better to be honest.

| Course he was gutted we were thrashed.
We have to do better with what we have got and like others I think we pick one or two who we know can,t possibly make a break and, if we know that as speccies, so should the person selecting our team.
Fax play great attacking rugby and can offload for fun because they know every player is looking for the ball and there,ll always be someone there in support.
I,d also like to comment on Mark Roberts. When he played for us I thought he was useless. Yesterday he didn,t look like the player we had had and it makes me ask why.
Any ideas ? Serious question too.

We played him as a centre where his defence was exposed. He is an impact forward that you bring off the bench when the opposition is tiring.

Yesterday is the first time this season, IIRC, that Roberts has come off the bench as an impact forward. He has played the vast majority of his rugby this season at centre. And at times, yes his defence has been exposed, Barrow away for instance, their centre, Ian Bell i think went round him far too easily.
All in all a top player for us, lost count how many times he just bumped your lads off yesterday, he was almost loooking for other players to run at cos most of yours had fallen off him.

Then one has to question why have Nanyn when all he can do is score from 2 yards out why not spend the money on someone who can create tries ? He can`t be cheap I know he is only on loan but we have sent players back to Super League clubs because they are not the sort of player we need.
