He played scrum half! Most, if not all modern day half backs defend out in the centres.

Durbin isnt great in defence either and as much as your all calling for him to start he would get targeted no end by the opposition teams.

We were dreadful defending outwide today in the first half - all over the the place. I think it was Maden/Higson's side Batley kept attacking and scoring down. You don't expect players to break through with such ease when facing the likes of those two, who are usually very reliable.

How many times did they create an overlap on that wing to score, it was far more than missed tackles. We are badly coached imho, we need pace to the game and McConnel doesnt offer that, play him at 13 for his defence, or start him at 9 then drop him back after 20 mins.

Yesterday, Watson was about our only player that seemed capable of creating something in attack. Take him out and we would have lost by a lot more. He isn't brilliant, but we haven't got a better replacement at the moment.

Exactly we are a damn site better with him than without. Every one wants to shoot Watto but what about Stewart? Has he ever contributed anything to any game he's played? He's on a good contract from what i here and what does he do? he gets in the 17 every week!! Lay off Watto and watch some other players for a change!

Agree 100%, Watson did not miss all the tackles in the first 20 Minutes,and of course he was the only player who never supportd a forward on the break during our endless periods of one man rugby.

I hate it when out of 17 players one man gets crucified, its so easy to pick on one player who is so called passed their best.We are not a good team at present but its not all Watsons fault,many more players who had worse games yesterday.

I've seen umpten games like yesterday over the years and the test will be how we react and perform in our next few games.Anyone who thought we would be anything but a mid table team this season is a fool and no one was ore sick that me yesterday but lets not take it away from Batley they played very well in the first half.

Watson rarely misses tackles, he usually has a hand in all the tries we score and people still call him.

Was only the second game i've been to, and wasn't I glad that I made the trip up from that there London specially!

It looked ridiculously disjointed and its hardly surprising. Looking at the teamsheet every week, we seem to have a different backline every time. Donlan alternating between centre and full back, maden alternating between wing and centre, Mort alternating between full back and wing etc... I think we will improve with a settled side!

There is a very good reason why Watson has to be in the team. Who else would direct the play? Watson calls everything, the problem is, a lot of the time its the rest that don't execute properly. Who else do we have that can direct play like that? I don't think we can play Ridyard and Watson together. Martin maybe a local lad and a nice bloke, but he is miles off at this level. The problem is what are the options, without Marshy. I can only think of Durbin with Watson, but that gives us more defensive problems.
