Leigh's excellent commercial department visited a number of shops, offices, pubs, council property etc yesterday in the hope of promoting the fun day that is approaching at the end of the month. We had some excellent promotions also on email, twitter, facebook and even by some fans. Can you believe that Claphams Bakery refused to display any poster to promote the event?

But their mini pasties are so good!!!

If all the other shops on that stretch are advertising it what difference would it make?

Be nice if they joined though, doesnt make sense to refuse to promote...

I think people are forgetting that Claphams has only just reopened after a large fire and it is not fully operational yet

I don't like this type of bullying. The last time I looked we lived in a democratic society where people were free to make their own choices. If Claphams don't want to support it then fair enough.

I hope people associated with the club don't take the same approach as the poster has, or they could quickly alienate club in the community.

Leigh business's rely on Leigh folk to spend with them, I am all for informing us fans of those that do support us as my money spends every where. It was great to see the Britt so packed on Sunday, hopefully some other pubs who benefit from fans will contribute like Peter has/is.
I would rather the club said for example 'Waterfields are a sponsor, the rest refused the opportunity', as fans we walk to the counter order then walk away after asking do they sponsor us, I wonder what reaction would be next time if a big chunk of us did this. 3000 families probably spend £15m pa at local supermarkets yet I cant see any embracing us??

I agree the club should promote businesses that sponsor us, however we shouldn't be naming all the businesses that don't help.

Especially those without cellotape.

Why do you think you are entitled to free advertising?

I wouldn't have mentioned the refusal by (somebody at) Claphams 'on here' anyway I bet even some shops even turn down 'charity' posters in their window. Like someone previously posted, a rather silly/pointless topic. Maybe the Pie shop didn't get offered FREE tickets for the fun day, or are Wiggin fans !

Question from some is why should Leigh get free advertising?

In the very town the businesses are operating remains the only professional sports organisation that last year brought 4000 visitors to the town every 2 weeks. In a years time that figure might be 7k.

You'd hope ALL businesses would support that quest..

People have pointed out they have had recent major issues, hopefully that was the reason for yesterday's apparent snub which under circumstances is perhaps understandable.

Time for the towns businesses to unite...

You are suffering from the idea that just because you support something, everyone else should do too. The owners of the bakery probably don't give a flying fig about a small-time rugby league club. Yes, 4K may turn up to watch Leigh, but this is usually on a Sunday when they are presumably closed?
They probably get asked to display posters every day, if they accepted all requests their shop would end up looking like a walking advertisement. It's easier for them just to politely say no to all requests for free advertising so as to be fair to everyone.
And by the way, I hope you have evidence of their refusal. If not, you are very much open to an allegation of libel, as you are been critical of a named business without evidence that what you are claiming is actually true.

I never realised that I was he only person from Leigh that went to the games. Are we the new Man Utd , bussing fans in from far flung places like Abram?

Just think how big the attendance would be if the citizens of Leigh watched their team, damn visitors taking all the credit.
