Excellent news! Another exciting young Leigh lad heading to the LSV! Seems we are finally learning that Easts and Miners (the best two amateur clubs in the country) are where we should be looking for talent instead of second rate Aussies and past it Super League players!

Can't wait to see him and Pownall and the rest in a Leigh shirt to see what they can do!

He is good Mish ive had the pleasure of videoing him at East, he's big strong fast a good worker and a good pair of hands, he's involved in quite a few tries on my YouTUBE channel for East's (he's the tall guy with shaved head).

Sams an excellent player but not wishing to frighten anyone but Sam dont get into my best 5 East players for this year

sams only played about 5 games for east 1st because he was on 18s tour to austraila and i think hes already got a couple of mom's,very good player with a fantastic attitude who trains very hard and just wants to learn and improve all the time

Can he run?
Can you compare him to AJ?

I think he would actually complement AJ Mr C, to have two such exciting prospects in the second row at Leigh would be awsome.

Blimey Keith thats a huge rap comparing him to a world class player like Peacock, hope they do sign him, a team comprising of local talent will always give more than 100% with the young lads thats been signed over the last few seasons at Leigh plus the young stars coming thro at East, Miners and the other local amt clubs things are looking great for the future of the pro game in Leigh with Millward, Robbie Paul, Paul Rowley in cahoots

Did he play for the u-18s last year? Tall slim lad who wore a headguard?

Ive got Hoppy on a few vids now and he seems to soak up knowledge from his coaches and his team mates its very rare he makes the same mistake twice, if he has signed I can see him pushing for a first team place by the end of March, if not sooner.
The lad is bound to make mistakes so I hope our speccies give him a bit of slack, he's had a great grounding in the game thanks to East, now under 'Basil' he should make the next step, I'm really excited if he has signed.

hope he does end up signing for us and is not snatched away at the last minute - sounds like a great local prospect..and it would be great to see him flourish at Leigh..

I seen Sam play throughout his years at East being my age. Since an early age he's been a stand out player for East along with Ben Davies (on the verge on 1st team at Wigan) and he's got better with age.

He toured with GB at 18s as mentioned, to represent a GB at any level is an achievement. I was at East when he made his 1st team debut against Widnes St Maries about a month ago and I was interested to see how he got on. A step up to play open age in the best amatuer league. He got my MOM that day.

He's a willing runner, strong and quick. Can run it up the middle and get a quick play the ball or out wide and made a breaks. He has a great offload which he uses very well. Good defender and will be a great signing if we can pull it off.

I think we must also give East a rap for the way they have brought him through the ranks and obviously have played a big part in the player he is. It will be great to see many East and Miners players in the Leigh squad next year. Both clubs are only getting stronger which can only be good news for the town.

No I know Si - he played full back when I saw them.

The lad I was asking about was a 2nd rower. Tackled like a missile. At Miners he caught their 13 with a huge - legit - hit.
