just watched the lancs cup final, the hull kr challenge cup win and 2 league matches(extended highlights)

i had forget how good we were
the forwards powerful and skillful and that backline that dreams are made off.

i still live in hope that one day we will have another great team.

Ah I remember them times too. When we were playing to big crowds and there still was only 3300 on.

The match at HKR - was that the challenge cup match that we won by 2 points when woody kicked a late goal? I was at that match and remembered being chased back to the coach by a load of HKR 'fans'. The coaches were parked in a park about a mile from the ground and we had to have a police escort out of hull cos the 'fans' were bricking the coaches! Great days eh?

Worst place in the game to film at is Whitehaven - or the old video point was.

You want to try taking schoolboys up there to play. I once gave a team talk after a try that went whatever you do kep your mouths closed and stick together when you walk off the pitch.

Great King Rat - I was on one of those fans on the coaches too.
I was too young for 71, but that Hull KR game was one of the most memorable games for me in over 35 years of watching Leigh, along with Lancashire Cup Final & Whitehaven of course (when we clinched the league).

Craven park was packed to the rafters, crazy Hull KR fans just went mental at the end when woody kicked that goal. leigh fans running for their lives & fighting their way back to the coaches, coach drivers holding doors shut so KR fans couldn't get on. Bricks all over the place. Police escort all the way out of Hull. There were 52 coaches that day from Leigh all parked up in that park (can you believe it!!).

Fantastic memories - singing the Wemberleigh song all the way home.

We lost two weeks later to Mal Reillys Cas in the quarter finals (Doh!)

I may just watch it again later it was a good game.

What a miserable day that was as well....... still at least we won the title...

Having watched the DVD. The Hull KR game is a cracker. Anybody watching that would think Leigh would have been sure bets for Wembley that year. What happened v Cas? did Leigh play badly? were players absent?

IMO the weather beat us that day , although to be fair Cas did have a decent side.

It p1$$ed down the whole match and we couldn't handle the conditions as well as Cas.

They were building Arks down Glebe Street.

My Dad made the stand in the 'boys pen' as he called it, behind the dugouts, and I remember very little of the game apart from someone holding a brolly at the side of me which served no puropose other than to divert the rainwater from the same, into the neck of my Parka. I dried out some time in 1984.

Lost 8-3 if I remember rightly.
