Having only just read the "deleted or locked thread" ... I'm becoming concerned that this is becoming a more censored forum as oppossed to what it actually is... an unofficial one.
Whilst I welcome the comments of some BOM on here, you are appearing as typical management intent on browbeating the common folk to toe the party line. Time to keep away from this forum for me!

I agree that the site is becoming more sanitzed, but I like the fact that members of the BOM post on here.

Not complaining about certain posts but its becoming to official for my liking and akin to minutes sent from a SMT meeting. My opinion of course.

I was about to suggest bringing back the early days of anarchy....and then remembered that was 12 years ago!

Open your eyes people, there's hardly any moderation takes place on here - and whenever there is, people create a new thread to complain about the moderation.

You don't get cart-blanché on here guys, because the people running this site have responsibilities. Where I see fit, for the benefit of this site or the club I support, threads or posts may be removed.

In reality it rarely happens, and often not until a topic has been done to death.

It makes me wonder if anyone complaining here genuinely knows what censorship involves, and why it is bad.

To be honest, I think the first two words of the above quote says a lot about your mindset. If you'd ever held a management position for even a few weeks, then perhaps you'd have a different perspective. Besides, what do the "common folk" do in response to "typical management"? Form a union, which itself has (highly paid) management that requires them to toe "the party line" (compulsory Labour membership, strike action etc. and a host of other petty rules and regulations) far more than the company management ever would!

I posted on that thread and did not read any replies for the remainder of the day. When I logged back on I could not find it anywhere. I now learn it has been removed due ro some offensive posts that are not in the clubs interest. So was it my post that caused great offence? I sincerely hope not as I am doing my best to bring people to this game who have not watched Leigh for a considerable amount of time, and I did make some positive contributions about how us fans and word of mouth being the clubs greatest asset in pushing the match.

You don't know, but if you did need to know then you would.

Then this would suggest that moderation needs to be done by someone totally independent of the club and not people who take a unilateral decision in what is or isn't in the clubs interest. I am not even sure that an independent fans forum should have any responsibility for looking after the clubs interests!

Read the AUP 2.2 and do what it says it tell s you what to do if you don't agree with any decision , what's the point of going on and on about it !

Well observed I am indeed a staunch Trade Unionist and long will it continue, as for your assumption of my mindset or my involvement in a managerial status, is just that , assumption .

Whom on the moderation list isn't independent of the club?

I volunteer some of my time, and my entire matchday experience for home games, to help the club in the areas I can. Lynda devotes a massive amount of her time to LISA, as a volunteer.

I have been asked to remove stuff by previous regimes (never by the current board) and some of those requests were granted, many weren't.

I'll also add that I've never been unduly pressured by the club, and I would walk away from my position at the club before ceding to moderation requests I don't agree with.

No I don't and now I am intrigued if anything has been 'read' in to my post unintentionally or out of context.

So is that classed as fair moderation as opposed to keeping the thread open and editing / removing any so called or alleged offensive posts as appears to be the policy on other forums on RLFANS?

My point is, if your behaviour was specifically at fault, we would tell you. If you haven't been told then your posts, individually, were not of particular concern.

The answer is I too like Michael haven't ever been asked to remove or amend any posts .
It's something I wouldn't do, I'm my own person and don't do anything unless I want to ask Starbug !!!!

I don't know if i'm correct or not but i would have thought that if i posted something that was liable to drag up old ground, reopen old wounds or turn a thread into a slanging match (iv'e seen enough over the years to usually spot them

) i would expect a pm to me explaining what had happened and why, so if i didn't get a pm i would presume it was not anything i had posted and the thread had deteriorated into an "i'm a better,wiser and more loyal fan than you". Yes it's an unofficial forum not an unreasonable or unmoderated forum!. A forum for people that support our wonderful club and i would like to think that non of us would knowingly post something that would or could embarrass or damage our club. Mind you moderators have to make judgement call and that decision will not please everyone but i do think people going on about freedom of speech and heavy handed censorship is a little OTT. I know that those afraid of too much censorship could with justification claim that removing threads could be the "thin end of the wedge"and yeah it possibly could , but the same could be said for a lack of moderation, although a lack of moderation would be more likely end this forum or force it to close through something written . I'm so pleased at the feeling around our club and team at the moment and really hoping that i can get to the game on Sunday .

Thank goodness it must have been you, and not me Harold! I too went out for the day and found the thread I started, had vanished. I would love to know if anyone actually answered the question I asked, but will not now find out. I guess I just have to assume they didn't?

Your question was answered Alan before you returned to the forum and by then it' ie the thread had been deleted.

Next time I see you I will tell you' but in truth my memory is limited now so I have endeavoured to only remember important things.

I'm not involved with the club in any way. I resigned from the Comms group before Christmas and have no dealings with anyone at the club.

The radio station is totally independent and belongs to Leighlife, not the club.

Lets me get this straight. Myself and "a few others" objected to a song sheet containing -what I regard as - an offensive song, that was publicly advertised in a publicity statement by the club. A thread that had only views of "fans" on an "independent fans forum" was then deleted as not being in the best interests of the club. Nothing that I could see in any post on that thread came anywhere near to harming the club as much as the publicity statement could have done.
Then a thread was locked for trying to find out why the other thread was deleted. There were no derogatory remarks about the mods as the use of the AUP used to lock the thread claimed.
To top it all the club put out what I call another silly statement about the song sheet being withdrawn with wording that tries to infer that it was a minority who were against the sheet. (I wasn't against the sheet, just the one song. But I never got a chance to say that on the appropriate thread). With wording like " Despite a great deal of support, a number of people". I find that a bit childish.
I have been coming on here and other forums and have read posts a million times worse than what has been deleted or locked in the last few days.
The club made the gaff not any single person on here.
What has happened on here is a disgrace. What are we meant to do just keep our mouths shut and let people who support such rubbish have it their way.

When you can't debate a problem about the club you love on an "independent fans forum" when they make a mistake then it's not independent is it? This forum is now affiliated directly to the club in my view.
Very, very disappointed with it all this week and I only hope that the lads can lift my spirits on Sunday because my faith in the club and this forum are at an all time low.

Wether you like the flute song or not 8 of 10 fans do 1 out of 10 don't give a toss and 1 out of 10 find it offensive.

That's your view and you are entitled to it. I will respectfully disagree, and I am more than comfortable with moderation policies on this forum.
