First of all I want to express my thanks and gratitude to everyone that gave up their Saturday afternoon or usual prematch routine to come and help out.

Although it didn't start great when I was put on one of the furthest carparks from the ground onsite and then had to sort out accreditation, I met some fantastic people and can't speak highly enough for my volunteer collectors which included TV Boy and DemonUK.

I got home just before 3 and we were counting for almost two hours with a grand total of £1235.06 raised for club coffers.

A fantastic effort and something to pass back at those doubters who questioned whether such a collection was wise.

In 2 weeks 3 fan led events have raised £2386.06 for the club - the collection, the brilliant effort in the sponsored tandem by Nicola and Sam Burtonwood and John Williams collection at the RL 4 Nations, Radio Mancs Fans forum the other night.

If anyone has any doubts about doing something like this don't. I had some and so did Demon thinking that we would come up against some horrible people but those doubts were quickly dispelled. I have met and some lovely people today from all over the RL community and enjoyed every minute doing today. One older Leeds fan who put a fiver in was in the army with a Joe Ashton who was a Leigh fan and they played together for the army abroad. You experience some things in life that enrich it and today was one of them. Well done Dave for organising it and a massive thankyou to all the lovely people who gave.

Also a big well done to those who helped, and to the wonderful, members of the RL Family, who contributed so generously.

I had to laugh at my daughter today. As we were entering the ground we both put money in the collection buckets and she said " They might not like us ( we are Wiganers) but I don't want them to go bust". I wonder if she would have done the same if it had been St.Helens.

I did think that yes but was 100% wrong....and I probably had more from wigan fans than any other team. Thanks to everyone who donated.
