Quote ="Cokey"Can't Grasp how the super 8s work regarding how to play the seven games.
I understand that top 2 out of the top 4
of the championship and 9th and 10th from superleague play 4 home games in the super 8s, but just don't get how the seven games are played, as it states that it's on a league basis. Can anyone elaborate and explain. Thanks'"
For once, I think that the RFL have come up with a simple answer.
As you say, Cokey, the bottom four SL teams and the top four Championship teams have a mini league season. Points previously earned are wiped out (because the two sets of teams were playing against different levels of competition) and the whole season (and thus whether you go into SL the following year or remain in the Championship) rests on the upcoming 7 matches - one each against the other teams in the group.
Because there are an odd number of games to be played, the RFL feels that the "extra" home game should be awarded to the four teams which have done best so far (ie those who finished 9th and 10th in SL and 1st and 2nd in the Championship).
At the end of the mini league, the top 3 are promoted into SL for the following season along with winners of a play off between 4th and 5th. The rest stay in the Championship for another year (at least !).
HTH.
