Burtonwood Bulldogs 30 -24 Leigh East U11s
Leigh East travelled to Burtonwood for there 2nd game of the season for what was to be another tough test in group A of the new set up. East were a little light on numbers for this fixture due to sickness to which the game was played at 9a side. This did tell as the game progressed on the wide pitch at Burtonwood. The hosts used there substitutes well to ensure player rotation kept their team fresh against a tired East outfit.
The conditions were tough for both teams as temperatures dropped, which made ball handling difficult at times. East halfbacks Johnny Openshaw and Kieron Prescott worked hard in pressing the Burtonwood defence and used strong wide runners Harry Stevenson and Connor Grainey well on the outsides. Callum Hughes continued to ask questions around the ruck area and found some good openings throughout the game.
The Burtonwood outfit were not giving up though and scored some good tries through finding openings in the tired east defence. Burtonwood seemed to be pulling away in the game as the gap in the scoreline widened with quick successive tries. However East did not appear to be giving up just yet and replied with tries to bring the scores back level.
Jaeden Channell made his mark on the game as he scored 2 tries and took some real stopping with some good running. In the final period of the game though, it was Burtonwood who took control and eventually broke down the East outfit. The visitors did have chances but did not seem able to finish off quite as well and Burtonwood.
Credit to Burtonwood for being patient and holding on to claim a good win. For East it's time to regroup in training and prepare for another tough trip to Blackbrook next week. Try scorers: Harry Stevenson 2, Jaeden Channell 2, Connor Grainey 1.

Leigh East u14s 16-20 West Bank
Leigh East u14 played West Bank in what was a shoot yourself in the foot type of game, West Bank took the lead in their opening set of the game which made East chase the game for the next 5 or so minutes.
When things started clicking into place the tries started coming for east, stand in loose forward Keiron Donnelly scored a 60 meter solo try which Sean Wadsworth converted then Daniel Surridge spied his chance behind the ruck and dove over from close range. For most of the game East were in control but ended up losing possession over and over again letting the visitors close in on the scoreline. East scored what they thought was the try that sealed the game after another long distant effort from Keiron Donnelly again converted by Sean Wadsworth, but it was West Bank that took advantage of lackadaisical defending and went to score the game deciding try from close range.
