Quote ="kirkhall"We have been very lucky at Leigh to have had some of the finest players ever. I've watched them since the mid-fifties when Mick Martyn was the star player at Leigh and every club wanted him however, he stayed loyal to Leigh! The best player I've ever seen (of any nationality) was Murphy however, John Woods was magical, to stand on the terraces at Leeds,St Helens, Wigan and the like and see him destroy their teams was unforgetable!Like Murph he would have got in any team in the world!
I'm amused when I see Timmy mentioned as a legend, I'm sure he was in Woody's bar!!! he would however have been traumatised by Stan Owen who played 415 games in 13 years and rept'd GB too! Bill Robby 14 years for Leigh 395 appearances another GB rep, Alf Wilkie and Dave Chisnall GB reps too these were all outstanding Props! We really have had some great players and its been a pleasure to have seen them.
Murphy tops my pole because he had something in abundance Woody didn't have, MOUTH

Speaking of Stan - came across this quote on t'tinternet:
A cocky young 2nd rower is given his marching orders after stiff-arming Stan. "But it's a first offence!" says the lad incredulously.
Ref replied, "I know - but its for your own good....cause when he comes round he [uwill[/u kill you"
