| Yep, the second half performance was very impressive from him. Gives us an extra outlet and extra pair of hands from the 1 spot. His kick return were good as well, thankfully the kicks were all down his throat second half.

| Very impressed with Mathers.Bridge, and Grix. Also impressed with the way that we kept at it, despite not playing very well. Two months ago this game would have been given up after 60 minutes. Good win.

| Nobody likes a Smart Fart, I know, and I hate to give it the old 'I told you so', but when I quoted Wayne Bennet's "Short term loss for a long term gain" when the deal went through, a few on here scoffed.

| I've got to disagree really. Thought he played well and gives a different approach to Riley. However, he was far less potent in attack than Riley although he does seem to marshall the troops better in terms of the line of defence.
He played well but I'm not getting too excited. Thought we lost more having him at FB and Riley on the wing.

Mathers has the ability to link in attack in terms of the passing game as he've very accurate, I find some of this very strange.

| Spend some time and watch Mathers marshalling the other players. Great ability from a full back as he can see the teams shape and any areas of potential weakness.

| It was a good performance from Mathers, he got better as the game got older, understandable given his last couple of years, he's not Mr Confident.
He's got a point to prove, probably to himself really, his career hasn't quite gone to plan and he's took the first step towards getting in back on track. He obviously feels he's working for the bloke who can make this happen for him, and the bloke he's working for seems to think the feeling is mutual, so the signs are good.
He has good body language, he looks a good comunicator, in a sidel ets face it, that we've said for a long time isn't packed full of vocal leaders, so there's definately a place for him at fullback. There was encouraging signs for sure, lets just hope he backs this up, starts string these performances together and we get to see the Mathers that Wigan didn't and that made the NRL come calling.

Just said the same thing on the MOM bit - and he brings a bit of niggle with him. Detested when he plays against you but great when he does it for you.
I think Mathers is an inspired Smith acquisition.

| I thought he had a touch of class about him. Could prove to be an additional pivot from FB; he has the ability.
Makes you wonder what Noble did to him at Wigan.

| Last nights performance has convinced me that Mathers is a great signing (i hope i am not proved wrong), from the last 2 games i can't understand why Wigan wanted rid of him. He adds a lot to the attacking line that Riley does not and looks very confident at the back. Riley is a reserve full back when called upon and with his commitment and pace there is definitely a place for him on the wing

| And end of day (i would like to see him stay), Riley will learn alot more about playing fullback under Mathers than he did, a 'constantly injured' Reardon.

I think undeniably he does. It was just your club that dragged him down. As they did with Fielden, Danny Orr etc etc.

is it just a coincidence that the two players that went the opposite way to Gleeson, appear to be doing quite well goulding at Salford and Mathers at the Wire.... early days yes.....but its also interesting that both clubs have seen a recent upturn in performances whereas Wigan are still pooh....

Calderwood, Moran and even Higham didn't exactly reach their previous heights in the world's most famous Rugby Jersey.
Two of those, like Goulding and Mathers as mentioned before, have resurrected their careers somewhat post-Wigan, IMO debunking the myth that they are the be all and end all of Rugby League.
