| Yes, big game next week but also a game against a poor Cas team and an opportunity for a few kicks up backsides.
Drop Dufty, Thewlis to FB, Russell to wing
If Drinkwater is back, drop Matautia
Won't happen, but it should.

And drop Ratchford as well, permanently.

Mata'utia should be out, wrench wasn't good today but he needs to play to develop. I don't personally believe he has shown that he will be good enough so it's sink or swim. Dufty was better today, ashton and thewlis are our best wingers bringing Russell in only weakens us IMO, he's back up and nothing more. In fact if Powell drops thewlis for Russell ever again, I'm straight in the Powell out camp, I don't have the patience for that sort of decision making anymore.

| Quote ="Gazwire"I'd say he should be given to at least the end of the season to turn things around. If it's still like this around the playoff time, then I would support the club if they wished to change manager. I think, at this point, he has just about enough credit in the bank.
I'm also getting a bit concerned with the performances of Paul Vaughan who doesn't seem the same. Big game next week.'"
Fair enough. Not sure where the credit in the bank comes from, but that’s your thoughts.
For me, I convinced myself that I had been wrong about 2022 on the strength of a really fast start. But looking back, Leeds we’re poor, Huddersfield appear to be doing what we did last year, Salford almost got us and probably would have but for the sin bin, and we had Leigh and Hull either side of a huge win against an under strength Catalan team, which remains the stand out. Leigh and Hull I think we got at the right time as they have both improved massively since. You can only play the cards that you are dealt, but I’m concerned that there may have been an overvaluation of the starting form and the reality is biting.
I’m not overly concerned with Vaughan. His stats have generally proved me wrong when I thought he had a quiet game. He’s still out best forward by a distance.

Most had a stinker so I wouldn't have subbed him off anymore than anyone else. If he was the only one then yes possibly, but then he wouldn't have had chance to make amends (which he didn't really do anyway). I agree though that in general he needs to be rested more in games for longevity reasons.

| Thewliss should be given the No1 jersey now. I think we can all accept mistakes due to inexperience.
Saints youngsters really give 100% when selected because if they play well they are playing next week even if a star is returning they get rewarded our know as soon as player X is back they are dropped. I fell there's no real competition for places at Warrington.

Dufty was better, [ireally?[/i Granted he didn't knock on twice in our own 25 this week but I've seen Lord Lucan make more eye catching appearences than Dufty did today.

| What happened after the win at Catalan in the league, up till then we had a top spirit(just like Wigan) now there’s nothing there, just players turning up for work, no spirit no will to put your body on the line for the club, curry 3 years why you have to earn contracts, Powell brought Holmes shocking, minikin worse than shocking and matouttia shocking, McGuire gone duffty wants to go only success is Vaughn( can’t be the best every week ) Dodson not good, kasiano bit player, Steph centre oh my god!!!!

Clark was streets ahead of golden boy walker today. That error from walker hasn't really been discussed much but there's a lot of blame directed to a player playing out of position. Ratchford is bobbins too by the way..and Ben Currie awol today, not for the first time in a big game.

Goodness me, "golden boy" Walker? Yes, he had a bad opening 20 mins or so and that error was terrible but the game swung our way when he and Kasiano returned - shame DP didn't do it earlier.
Walker is the future, Clarke is the past. End of.

| Not so sure there Morrissey. That was a TERRIBLE error from Walker and other than last week he’s been poor for a few weeks. IMO Clark is still much more effective. Dwyer and Walker fills me with turgid dummy half dread.

You might. The Wire masses won't. After St Helens when Dufty was dropped, Thewlis didn't have a great game at FB and lots of people calling for Dufty to come back sharpish.
It's also taken about four years for people to stop talking about Ashton and the Salford semi final.
Our fans will not tolerate any errors.

| I have no problem with thewlis getting the fb spot. Great to see a player giving it everything when it's hard graft. There's a few in our team that only get involved when the goings good.

Dwyer is an horrendous signing. Really don't rate him one bit.
A shame you couldn't get Clark (yes Clark, not Clarke) to extend.

Goodness me. CHASING THE GAME? There was still 70 minutes to go with a one man advantage for goodness sakes.
The crucial moment was the 6 again after the Bullock try. That was rank stupidity.

| Can anyone tell me how wire play, it’s not open free flowing, it’s not defensive I’ve no idea what we try to do and foremost what we’ve done all week in training, Wigan had 12 players but able to make an overlap and score, we had13(I think) and never able to pass and catch(basic rugby) and set wingers free, matty Ashton never gets ball in hand in space unreal, why not get big slow winger who can take ball out like a second rower.

Out of the numerous pages of responses to today this one is the most telling... The style is up the middle and the success of that power game left the team when mikaele went back... It's funny as Powell showed free styling attack with Castleford....today we never attempted to power down the middle and then off quick ruck out to the flanks... Really doesn't help that the centres are pedestrian and neither can give the wingers we have a chance..we were an easy team to defend against with 12 .... Apart from the lack of game management nous today there is also the ages old one of just being mentally soft .... bizarrely despite this we have in the main players to turn it around if only we had the likes of a Rowley to improve there on field skill set

I'm not sure Powell, or any coach at SL level, should have to coach his players how to catch, or hold onto, a rugby ball, which was the main reason why we lost today.
Even if we had the greatest coach in the world, putting together the best attacking moves available in training, it still wouldn't produce an improvement if the players go out on matchday and make the basic errors our lot did today.

Briers is the obvious next Wire manager. When it happens just depends on when the board decide the Powell project has run its course.
(It hasn't yet, in my humble opinion).
