| Yes I suppose Chase would be the better choice. Most of that team are top talents and the team would blitz Super League until everyone’s ban comes into force
It goes to show how most of the best natural talents have issues.

| Quote ="Oxford Exile"[ubecause I have been watching and coaching rugby long enough to recognise when somebody 'has it' or not.[/u Yes the pack is a factor, and half backs are only as good as the platform the forwards provide.....stand by my comments re. Patton. Average Joe.'"
Wayne Bennett over here
worst drilled and coached season for a Warrington side in a long, long time and from that you know Patton is an average Joe. Not just made to look average in a below average side.
You admit that the pack is also a factor and halves need a platform to perform, but in spite of all that and the fact he hasn't had a platform all season, you just can "recognise" that he doesn't have it. Nothing to do with the rest of the way the team has performed.
You know I stand there every week and watch Patton run 20 odd metres with a ball looking for a runner only to get clattered and some bloke behind me to scream "FFS PATTON" not "FFS, SOMEBODY HIT A LINE FOR HIM".... FFS Patton. There are people who watch Warrington and rugby without having the faintest idea of what they're watching.
I suppose you are exempt though, because you've coached rugby for long enough and you can "recognise" whether "Somebody has it or not". I've also been coached by people within the amature game who haven't got a clue what they're going on about. So unless you've coached at professional level your argument that you've coached and watched the game for long enough to "recognise when somebody 'has' it or not" it pretty much invalid.

Not sure Morley was ever a 'risk'.
The best and most respected prop Super League has ever had.

| It is hard to see who has & hasn't been any good when the majority of the team have been performing like headless chickens & with no particular drive to win games. Even our qualifying 8s were a struggle at times.

| Quote ="sally cinnamon"Wigan and Leeds academies produce better players than us, and the lads they stick with in the first team are good. The ones they persist with have performed at a high level from early on. Many others play a few games and get shipped out, sometimes to clubs like Warrington.
I wonder if guys like Patton, Rhys Evans, Matty Blythe etc would have been given more first team opportunities at Wigan or Leeds than with us?'"
This is exactly it. I should imagine every amateur RL player in Yorkshire is drawn towards playing for Leeds as the ultimate ambition. If they are not up to standard they get shipped on. It's the same at Wigan with us taking Hughes and Crosby (as an example) both share the same career trajectory at Wigan. Both joined 2011/12, then DR'd, the loaned, then surplus to requirement.
That said I think there is opportunity to develop our young players better.

With regard to the positions of 10 and 12 and with a Wire slant on things I think these positions could adequately be filled in accordance with the criteria required by Joe Price and Alan Rathbone

answer this question...how many teams that finished in the top 8 would have Patton as a starting half? I'll give you a clue its less than 1.

| Ok, my 2 cents on Patton. From what i have seen. Has ability yes, is he what Warrington need to compete where they want to be? No.
Majority of the games that Patton has played well in have been against mid/bottom table sides. Against your sides we should be competing with? he hasn't shone. ....
Just my opinion of course. We need a world class half back, and hopefully Price will deliver. But cant see it......

And you know this because as someone who has coached for many years you can tell exactly which clubs would be interested in which players and whether those players would get a start or not? Shame you never got involved in the coaching at Wire this season. It would have been nice for someone to come in and turn the season around.

How can anyone sit there and comment that he isn't good enoughduring that season is beyond me. HIS FIRST FULL SEASON. If he was like Matty Russell and consistently Poop for 3 years then yeah fair enough. but he's been well and truly been thrown under the bus this year. Expected to make miracles happen in a team that really couldn't have cared less.
Sandow left and Patton was brought in and expected to run the show. If the rest of the team had been knocking walls down, playing well and knocking teams around in defence then yes all the Patton doubters would have an argument, but they weren't. They were shocking. So how you can judge a young halves ability after playing behind that all season is bewildering

| But in answer to your question, it’s all quite on the Russian front it appears lol. I’m constantly looking at NRL news feeds and nothing happening, even moley as gone quite, then again don’t really take him serious, just something to read when I’m bored.

Oops
In other news apparently Russell is out the door an all. So we could be seeing a new Winger in. But apparently Price isn't just mentioning a half to keep the fans happy. He's pretty genuine and Brown will see the exit sign to make way. Don't be surprised if its a player whos worn a red V in his career, amongst other colours. Nothing certain but there is apparently interest and questions being asked.

| its depressingly quiet in the transfer market for Warrington fans....considering the numbers we potentially have to get on-board just to get the playing roster back up to an minimum operating level. Squad is thread bare at the moment.

Calm down young Dec, you'll be playing for Leigh soon.
I joke and seriously hope he makes those of us who don't believe he can make it eat our words. Despite only being a mere fan however you can usually tell from consistently watching when a player isn't cutting it whether it's only in your unprofessional opinion doesn't really matter because that's all it is.. Sometimes they just don't fit other times they're just not good enough. Not sure which it is with Dec, but given him and Brown are our two remaining halfs and the new coach has already said he wants a new half, it would appear he thinks the same as some of us; I.e that either one of or both of our current options aren't good enough.

| what about all those coaches that said Luke Gale "didnt have it" when he was Dec's age?
seemingly not good enough for Leeds after leaving their Academy for Doncaster (2nd or 3rd tier rugby ???) then playing consistently in the bottom four of superleague with London and then pretty much similar with Bradford. he then reached the heady heights of mid table, with Cas....
....until this year when fans that have an eye for a player would have gladly seen Moran pay big money for him....
Decs had one ordinary season, along with seasoned International and former NRL players.....
if you want a scapegoat now Penny has gone Patton isnt the one .....
anyway ive heard nothing on rumours..... nothing new there....
