| Last year Steve Price said he wanted a resilient team and, after a slow start, our defence and teamwork did improve and we thought progress was happening. Like everyone else have to agree our play for most of this year has been pretty boring lacking in breaks, no runners, poor discipline and more errors than the opposition.
Losing Ratchford and Austin for a sizeable slice is partially responsible but it highlights the shortcomings we have in the rest of the squad to dictate and control play.
Having said all that, when it comes to big games, we have largely been successful ie Wigan in the Cup, Wigan at Magic, Hull in the semi and, of course, Saints on the final which surprised most of us.
While again I am not expecting it to happen, but if Price really does pull of a Grand Final win from this position, it will be a remarkable feat. Not that it excuses a lack of commitment in too many games this year.
Wane was criticised for boring rugby during the season and quite a few heavy losses but came up with the goods when it mattered. We have obvious weaknesses in the team so I am hoping for another coaching ‘masterclass’...or more likely my glass is just half full.

So did we have a puncture between 74 and 09?

| You kind of ruined your post when you said that we, as supporters, shouldn’t have any demands or expectations.
I think we’ve got every right to have expectations given the investment in the playing side of the club over the years. Up there with the highest spenders year after year, yet many seem happy to accept second far too often.
Given the above and adding the fact that many of us have never witnessed a Championship winning Warrington side, I feel we have every right to demand success too.
Winning the cup aside, we’ve seriously lost our way since May and that is down to Steve Price and his players. The form, the performances, the style of play, simply haven’t been good enough given the wealth of riches at our disposal.

| It would be great to believe that Price has a battle plan up his wizard's sleeve to get us to the GF but it isn't going to please the regular supporter who likes to see effort put in during the weekly rounds. Many of us want to be entertained , which is why we watch RL.

I bought a bike this Summer after 25 years of not having ridden one and I couldn’t ride it, couldn’t balance! I had to sit on it in my hallway and try and balance and then go out round the block when I felt comfortable to. I’ve been no further than two miles on it in one go and still feel a bit dodgy on it even a few weeks in.

| I started following Warrington in 2010 and got my first season ticket in 2011. When walking into a busy derby game that season (I’ve got a feeling it was Wigan) there was a bloke in-front of me loudly complaining about all these ‘glory hunters’ and he preferred it when there were just 3000 ‘proper fans’ at Wilderspool. It set me thinking about what defines a fan and at what point I could consider myself one.
Over the last 9 years I’ve come to the conclusion that one fan shouldn’t be defining another fan’s support (so I ignored the guy who told me I wasn’t a fan because I sat in the North rather than standing in the South). If supporting the team for you is cheering them on at 40-0 down, fine. If it means calling for the head of a coach/player who isn’t producing, fine.
For me, I’m in the camp that thinks we should be ambitious. Following Warrington has given me a pride in my home town that i didn’t have before and nothing would make me prouder than seeing them lift the big prize.

| To the subject's title... I couldn't agree more. Support isn't about winning, it's about a love, a loyalty. A feeling.
It's about having a remembrance for Boyd, Tamati, Jackson, Sanderson, Roberts, Gregory in 86. Its about Johnny Davies, Dessie Drummond. and Morley. Its getting a tingle down your spine about Henare and Penny. But it's also about that 5h1te Reggie Bowden side of 84/5. The dross of Anderson, Plange and Cullen. Of getting a whipping of Wigan, or getting p155 wet through at Swinton (after a floodlight failur AND loss). It's also about mediocrity like Rudd, Williamson and Price's dull rugby.
I'd HATE to be a "fan" of success for success' sake.
Throughout my 50 years, I've known enough people who were "fans" of Tiger Woods at golf/Phil Taylor at darts, Manchester United/Liverpool, AP McCoy/Schumacker/Hendry etc. Its almost like a status thing to some.
Support, to me, is a two way street. I'll give it in spades when I see commitment. I'll also slag off, when I see 5h1t3 or, even worse, non commitment. I pay my money/give up valuable time. That's what support is. That's why I've given grief to Asotasi and Roberts, but praised to the skies, the names in the first paragraphs.
Supporting Rochdale and Dewsbury., with no REAL chance of meaningful success. THAT'S support.
People's lives change. I've not been to an away game in years, through other commitments/interests and, dare I say it, apathy. I've better things to do with my time, than give away 6 hours of my life to go and watch us get beat on a Friday/Sunday in Yorkshire. It doesn't stop me beaming with pride when we win, or hurting after a 5h1tsh0w loss like last Friday.
I go/watch on TV to be entertained. At the moment, I'm not. Buck your ideas up, Price (and team). Yes we've won the CC, and MASSIVELY happy I am. But a fan needs to be kept interested, otherwise he turns into a glory hunter, chasing names like Woods, Taylor, Schumacher, etc.

| The club has no divine right to win anything...... But supporters have a right to be entertained.
With the investment in the club we should be demanding more. We are the heaviest spenders in the league but play a dull and predictable form of rugby.
The money hasn't just been spent of first teamers either, how many young players have we brought from other clubs but they rarely make the first team...... We are still miles behind Wigan and Saints in terms of bringing the academy through.
The CC win has papered over some cracks and Price just about deserves another season but he needs to deliver next season with a better brand of rugby and better mentality throughout the team.

| Leeds and Wigan had a McDermott/Wane out thread throughout their OT-winning years, with fans fed up of boring rugby and losing against 'weaker' opposition, slacking off through the regular season but turning it on when it matters.

That's the glimmer of hope that I'm holding on to, I don't think lightning will strike twice this season though. Besides the club needs attendance money and the drivel we have witnessed for the majority of this season won't be putting bums on seats in 2020.

| Like a (dwindling) few on here, Ive been doing this supporter thing since the mid 1960s. Consequently, I was weaned on mediocrity. Nevertheless, I did enjoy that feeling of being the underdog and the highlights of occasionally beating our more illustrious neighbours. I remember being encouraged by the older, wiser supporters to appreciate the rugby from both teams rather than just being a one eyed fanatic. Granted it was tough as a young kid to applaud the opposition, but it the long run it has been beneficial. Unfortunately, this lesson doesn't appear to have been passed down to many of our current fans judging by the behaviour of many in my favoured South Stand.
Regarding this season, Id like to believe that the end may justify the means. Could it be that Mr Price is encouraging our limited style of rugby simply to get the GF monkey off our backs - or more worryingly, could it be his NRL default mode? If, amazingly we do get to the GF, and are successful then all is forgiven for a few months at least. However, next year it will have to be more entertaining otherwise I'll start watching clips of our glorious past on Youtube instead.

How does a strategy of playing poorly for 3 months and losing a 2nd chance in the play offs help get a monkey of our back?

You're best asking Steve Price for the answer to that one.

| How would we some up the strategy of our opponent if we get past Cas. Will Wigan go all out to beat Salford or will they let them past, will Salford let Wigan past or will our game Thursday develop this conundrum. Its about the best interest I can find this week.

| ....but defeat to Salford gives the Wigan a headache.
They share with Latics and would have to shoehorn in another unscheduled fixture during the football season that they wouldn't have to worry about by winning.

Big difference in those cases that those clubs had recently won GFs and the coaches had the pedigree. I dont think Price is on control of our form one bit.
